Thread: Taxes 2005

  1. We always owe money, my dad hadn't gotten a refund in a few years. He owed over 4 thousand last year. His employer helps pay for CPAs to do all the work for us now, though.

I don't know shit about taxes, but I have a feeling my dad is seriously messing something up. That seems like way too much to owe.

  2. Canada supposedly has more of a tax burden than the U.S., but I've never had to give the govt a cent.
It is exactly this broken logic that has led us to this mess of the internal revenue code. Whether or not you have to write a check to the government is irrelevant and has nothing to do with the tax burden.

The government takes out whatever it wants and when it gives some of it back to you (you as in, everyone) at the end of the year you think its found money and go and blow it on big screen TVs and refrigerators.

The money was always yours, the government just didnt take out the right amount. But most people can't connect the dots.

They shouldnt be taking out any, though, it just softens the blow and lets them play games with your money more. There is 5 or 6 different deductions on each of my pay stub all of which are the same fucking thing, "give the government money".

  3. Got my refund last week, a little less then $900.
