and cameras wont stop crime. I lived in a pretty shitty place that had knife fights and lots of drugs. All the halls had cameras. They just made a point to do that shit either inside their room, or on the blind spots of the cameras.

Bingo, its not about stopping crime, its about exerting more control over the populace. Police already grossly abuse the power they do have, I cant imagine what else they could do.

No, it doesnt make sense to put them in public places, because the police will use them to spy on citizens, and harass them for petty yet revenue-raising tickets. Cameras on stop lights dont do anything to improve the accident record at those intersections, they just make money for the police.
