Reminds me of a game design I've half had in mind for a while- Camera Sniper. Object is to take out every single surveillance video camera you can find with a sniper rifle while not getting caught. If there was a way to make it fun I'd have something to work with.

But yeah, I really dislike surveillance cameras anywhere they pop up. I don't like being watched precisely because I'm not doing anything wrong, and I don't believe the cameras protect me from anything.

Just think with the money they COULD use to hire more cops and patrols, they'll just spend it on expensive cameras, wiring and labor, then have to pay a extra person to watch the cameras and report crimes to already over worked cops.

You can't actually protect someone from rape, or murder for that matter. The nature of the crime means that, 99% of the time, punishment is the only option.

So the guards can zoom down the blouses of hot barely legal chicks. Believe me, I've known people who had to watch security cameras and that's 90% of what they're doing. The only time they catch criminals is when the criminal is being so fucking obvious a child could realize it.

Unless you'd like your taxes raised a lot, there has to be a way for them to get additional revenue. That's really what it's all about. I have mixed feelings about it, but I'd rather take my chances with tickets than get guaranteed higher taxes.
