Why, so your relatives can watch a video of you being raped and murdered? Cameras aren't a deterrent to a guy wearing a mask, especially if someone isn't watching them 24/7 and can send cops to your aid immediately (which ain't happening). As for putting cameras in private homes, I'm pretty sure that would be illegal.
And I agree, cops tend to abuse their considerable power. No good can come of this.

Police cameras in private houses? There's no way that line would be crossed. This is just too blatant. Cameras in malls, OK. Your home is where privacy should be especially sacred. If Hell freezes over and it actually gets to that, even the privacy-hating suits out there would shoot this shit down.

As for "guaranteed higher taxes", I think the government needs to cut the budget instead of raising or creating new taxes. Surely there are nonessential programs that they can cut.
