Thread: TNL Movie: Stand By Me

  1. TNL Movie: Stand By Me

Ok, ok. I'm sure alot of you have seen this, and I spent a lot of time trying to think of a movie that would be a little more obscure, but I quickly changed my mind about everything that I would come up with. At one point I was going to go with Around The Bend...but I'm not sure that's the kind of movie you'd throw out to others in a setting like this, mainly because it's more of a 'love it or hate it' type of film. So I finally decided to go with 1986's Stand By Me, which since I first saw it, has always been one of my all time favorites.

Plot (from IMDB)- Based on Stephen King's Short story "The Body", "Stand By Me" tells the tale of Gordie Lachance, a writer who looks back on his preteen days when he and three close friends went on their own adventure to find the body of a kid their age who had gone missing and presumed dead. The stakes are upped when the bad kids in town are closely tailing - and it becomes a race to see who'll be able to recover the body first.

  2. I mean, it's a great movie and everything, but really are there people out there who haven't seen it?
    Time for a change

  3. Great movie, to me, this movie is among movies like predator and the back to the future movies, in the sense that if this movie happens to come on tv, you will drop everything you are doing, and watch, despite the fact that there are a million commercials, and that you might already own it on dvd.

    Regus is right.

  5. I NEVER watch movies on tv because they are edited, and not in widescreen. I see your point, but if I have the dvd, I'll pop it in.

I didn't really try to come up with something people haven't seen, every time I did I had second thoughts on my pick, so I just went with a movie I've always enjoyed. I'll pull the cool obscure angle next time around.

i agree, and for some reason everytime TnT shows Shawshank Redemption for 3 weeks straight i tend to watch it a couple of times.

  8. Another great movie...I haven't watched it all the way through in a long time. Every so often someone makes a good King adaptation.

lol, I woke up this morning and Predator was on... I didn't get out of bed until it was over.

I'm going to either pick this flick up here soon or rent & burn it. It's been too long since I've watched it.

  10. though I didn't like the reminiscing angle the film took, Stand By Me is sincerely a classic.
