I'd go so far as to say I'd love to see a game that's monochrome and cel shaded. A Sin City game in this style would be amazing.
I was playing the UT2k4 conversion mod Hollow Moon today which happens to be completely in black and white.
I was impressed with how well this aesthetic works for the atmosphere in the game. I'm curious if other people here would be interested in seeing an occasional monochrome 3d game or if the style is a turn off.

I think cel shading would work quite well with a monochrome game, yeah. The thing is, the visual style has to really benefit from it. If it's done just for the sake of doing it, I think it could be kind of a cheap way to get attention. A dark, film noir-inspired cops/gangsters game could look really classy like this, or something with a B&W comic book style would be awesome.Originally Posted by Kev
Guess I'm not opposed to the idea itself, though I have a hard time believing most development teams could pull it off successfully. If one of the more artistically capable developers tried (like KCEJ, Team ICO or some of Capcom's teams), I'm sure it could be something special.
I've been sketching out ideas for a sepia-tone space sim with heavy art nouveau influences. Sort of like Victorian steampunk, only moved forward into the Edwardian age. One day you'll see it. Hopefully
The first level of Gley Lancer on Mega Drive gave me the idea. It's very monochromatic and looks really nice.
As should be obvious, I like the idea of monochrone or low colour saturation. Shadow of the Colossus and ICO both make excellent use of the latter.
Why not give all games the option to be black and white? With modern hardware, it would be a simple filter, and then a player could decide if they wanted to play it that way or not. I think some games would work well that way.

Monochrome > pink f-chan shit
If they run in true monochrome, I bet the PS3 and 360 could make a game run at 1080 with a consistent frame rate.
No gnus is good gnus.
i really doubt the use of color taxes hardware that much.Originally Posted by RoleTroll
