The problem with Deadpool is that by the time Cable & Deadpool started they had pretty much decided that DP was a retard and never to be taken seriously ever again.
Time for a change

I figured that's where someone would stop liking DP, didn't want to outright say it. I'm with Will. And the two mini-series, at least the first one for sure, they planted the seeds of him having a conscience. The whole 'I'm not a worthless killing machine, watch me heal Copycat' thing. Probably where they got the idea for DP goes good guy.Originally Posted by Dolemite
The good thing about the Joe Kelly run, is he'd try to be the good guy, and fail miserably. His turn with Typhoid Mary was pretty brutal.
Then again, I was going for the comedy, and the DP/Agent X series had a lot of it, except for the group of issues between 45ish and late 50 something. #11, I think, the Gumping issue with the Spiderman spoof was comedy gold.
Cable/Deadpool just kinda blows. It's more like CABLE/deadpool. He was also introduced in X-Force, btw. /nitpick
Yeah, I meant X-Force. But there's so many fucking X-books, who can keep track.Originally Posted by portnoyd

I loved that book. Lost all the colorforms within a day of ripping open the bag.Originally Posted by portnoyd
Pretty much marked the end of "all the comics have to be in pristine mint condition" for me forever.
Cable also debuted in New Mutants. X-Force spawned from that series.Originally Posted by wikipedia

While I can't really vouch for Cable and Deadpool as being the best characterization of Deadpool (although I do enjoy it on a base level and Fabian Nicieza who basically created him writes it), I thought he had a suprising amount of depth in the Joe Kelly stuff. And like portnoyd said, he's still a bastard since he keeps this old lady locked up in some shithole house and fucks with his friend Weasel like all the time. He also tends to realize that he can't be a hero in the same vein as the others because of his fucked up past which I thought was cool.Originally Posted by Dolemite
Here's the whole Wikipedia thing on the Joe Kelly stuff: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadpool
There are some funny panels there as well.
