Kirby puckett-dies at the age 44

I live in Minnesota, and everyone really loved this guy, until he went kind of crazy. He smacked his wife around, got divorced, and then sexually assaulted a women in a McDonalds returant bathroom. He then just kind of vanished for the years fallowing that. Hes always been the icon for the Twins, most people I imagine think of him when they think of the Twins accross the country. People will always have fond memories of the guy, but his post-baseball days went really south. But he got us two world series, so thats all that matters I suppose.

Yea... in every tribute Ive seen they all talk about what a great player he was (very true) and then start saying how "he was such a great guy too". WTF? No he wasnt. Its just amazing how in death people will start making shit up instead of telling the truth. When Pete Rose dies is everyone going to talk about what a nice, great, warm guy he was? It makes me sick.

Well, he was known for being amazingly fan friendly. He DID treat everyone great, the state loves the guy and we loved them back. He had all sorts of charities, did all sorts of appearances, and was would sign autographs and take photos no matter where he was or what he was doing. All the radio stations have been talking about him all day here, and people calling in with stories and memories. He was also the ultimate team mate, he carried that team all the time, and did it willingly.

All of that stuff is true, UNTIL his marriage fell apart. That was years after he retired because of his eye. When his marriage fell apart, he fell apart. He stayed away from everything, you could not find the guy, when it used to be hard NOT to find him somewhere. And then years later another dark incident happend, and then he left the state all together.

Everyone here loves him, but knows that he fell apart in the end. Anyone that met him during his baseball days won't have a bad thing to say about him but he did'nt do a bad thing to anyone. Thats why all the sports shows are raving about him. The comparison to Pete Rose isn't really fair, because Pete Rose was always a dick, and became was a dick after baseball too. So when people talk about Kirby being a great guy, they are talking before his life fell apart, and during that time, he did'nt talk to anyone.

People don't do complete personality 180's, that's bullshit. If he was a shithead after he retired he was probably a bigger shithead before he retired. People just didn't care before he retired because he was a productive athlete.

My first really vivid pro baseball memory was my excitement over his clutch homer against Atlanta in the 91 World Series, so he'll always be remembered by me for that.
