Bill Proposes Red DUI License Plates

Assm. Ray Haynes, (R) Murrieta: "I think it's fair because the biggest problem of driving while drunk is that you are a lethal weapon inside a car. And people need to take steps to protect themselves."

Haynes' effort highlights a sobering reality in California. Despite the threat of license suspension, jail time and heavy fines, a new Department of Motor Vehicles analysis shows 36 percent of car crash fatalities in this state involve alcohol. That's up from 30 percent a decade ago.

  2. OH NO BIG BROTHER

This is a rad idea and I don't care

  3. Oops! There was suppose to be a quote in the title.

"You should not Drink and Bake!"

Don't know why it didn't show up...

  4. I am all for this. Id also like to see yellow plates for new drivers and a special plate that allows more skilled drivers to drive 10-20 over the posted limit.

  5. Yay, more ways for the police to ruin people's lives for no reason.

And yes, it is for no reason - if you get caught driving drunk (breathalyzers are horribly inaccurate and easily manipulated anyway - this is a FACT, yet its treated as absolute proof of guilt in court) you pay your fines, get points on the license, etc. That is the punishment. This is harassment.

  6. License plates should be colored to match the race of the person who holds the registration. This way police don't have to risk their lives pulling up beside a car to shine the spotlight in and find out whether they're allowed to harass the driver unnecessarily or not.

This would also mean asian drivers would have bright yellow license plates so you'd know who not to try and pass.
    Time for a change

Can we give old people gray license plates?

  8. No, we just don't let them drive. Or talk.

You gotta think, "does this in any way prevent drunk driving?" I can't how it would.

But if there's one thing people (even people who have driven drunk before but haven't gotten caught. I know because I used to be the same way) absolutely love to get self-righteous about, it's drunk driving. So I expect heavy support.

  10. There will be traffic jams on the highway because of this, you will hear the coptor go "Yeah, I-421 (Whatever) is backuped all the way from the los angelas exit due to everyone sitting as far the fuck away form a perosn with a DUI license plate"
