Thread: Region compatibility with PS2 online adapter?

  1. Region compatibility with PS2 online adapter?

I have a Japanese PS2 modded to play US games. Wanna get online with my US copy of MGS3 Subsistence. Anyone know if there are any issues with getting a US network adaptor?

  2. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to go online on a modded PS2. When you log in, there's a recognition service that will realize you've got a modded system and will boot you out.

  3. It's not impossible... because I've gone online with my unit awhile ago when MGS3: Subsistence was released.

Most of the chips incorporate either come with a switch or a special command sequence the user can enter to disable it.

  4. Oh, mine's pretty old so I don't think it has any of that. Oh well, thx for the info.

  5. a japanese system thats modded, a legit US copy of the game. it shouldn't work. you'll have to disable the chip to get around the network DNAS check but by disabling the chip you wont be able to play the game in your system.

this is irregardless of whatever network adapter you have.

Just a minor note about the word 'irregardless'.

Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.
In other words, it's not a real word.

Too bad you can't play MGO with us online, Yamcha. The more, the merrier.

No. It was just a head's up. No malice behind my comment.

Bleh, I read this wrong so technically my previous answer was incorrect. I don't own a Japanese PS2 so I can't confirm if a U.S. Network adapter would even work. Generally peripherals like that aren't region specific. Though as I was saying, if you modded your unit, check Google for a "disable" command. With this , you'd be able to enjoy online multiplayer games since the chip won't be detected. I experienced no difficulities whatsoever going online with my system.
