  2. Haven't read the thread yet. But my initial reaction to the article is.... If she wants to get up on her soapbox and hate on gays in the middle of campus then let her. I guarentee that she will draw a huge crowd of people yelling at her, calling her a bigot and homophobic. We get crazy fundementalists all the time on my campus hold huge signs about how we're all going to Hell, and I don't care. It always turns into a big circus of human stupidity.

    But I agree with the crazy, she should be allowed to say whatever the hell she wants, even if the subject is unsavory and hateful.

  3. The whole gay issue is one of the whole reasons why I don't find christianity conceivable.

    I'm not gay or anything, but if someone is gay, it's not their fault, and as long as they don't go around being an asshole with it (a kid in my grade last year used to grab other guys asses...he left now and went back to New York) I have no problem with them. They deserve the same right to having sex, marriage for tax advantages and security, and whatever else normal couples have rights to.

    And if Christianity is right, and God designed each and everyone of us, then why would he make people gay, if they're only destined to burn in hell. (I think that's what the bible says...)

    I brought this thought up with my parents (who are christians) and they say a person who is gay has the devil in them, which frankly is just as absurd.

    The girl is clearly a closed minded idiot. A parallel thing would be to go around the campus protesting against black people, and I think gay-bashing should be on parallel with that with being unacceptable.

  4. Well people like to pick and choose things from the bible that they want to hold as a rule, while ignoring others.

    It also says to stone ill-mannered children, and to put to death anyone who works on a sunday.

    But...we can let those slide. Even though it's the 'word of god'. But that gay shit? God was serious bussiness about that.

    Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but sometimes it goes from discussion to out and out arguing. I thought I could have an open discussion when I first talked about this, but I was wrong.

  6. I'm sorry I didn't mean any offense to christians, it's just one thought I had which never seemed to fit with the christian view.
    I'm not looking for an argument here with my idea, I was just mentioning something I thought of. If you could offer a more logical view, then I'd be happy to hear it. Hell I'd let you convert me if you can put forward a good argument, I'm fairly open about these matters.

    I have no problem with people being christians, but when they're in your face about it, like this girl here, I think they've stepped over the line.
    They have rights to their opinions fine, but start blasting them continually in peoples' faces and start offending people and they've gone too far, I mean what does the girl think she will achieve hear.
    Is she going to convert people to christianity? Not with that attitude.
    Will she turn gay people straight? I don't think so.

    All it's doing is causing trouble, and do you really think God is up there smiling down on what she's doing with her time?

  9. Also, science and especially evolution does not asseret truth. What it is is called "Provisional Truth," and can be modified, added to or thrown out altogether when actual evidence is applied against it and confirmed by experiment. Modern medicine which saves millions of lives owes its existance to Darwin and the Theory of Evolution almost entirely. I don't see why anyone would have a problem with something that has shaped our world so positively, been so beneficial and stands up so well against scrutiny, testing and evidence. Not undeniable, but entirely confrimable, its closer to what cristians might call a law than any other standing theory and that's saying a LOT.

    Diffx is right, Theory means a lot more than dipshits who say "it's just a theory, not a law," think it does. Though it's UNSCIENTIFIC to claim it to be The Truth. Truth means Absolute and Unquestionable and for that - well - we humans do not produce unquestionable and pure unshakeable absolute truth. Not regularly at any rate. Evolution's 'truths' are provisional. Thats just how science works. The Boogeymen in lab coats aren't trying to scare off Jesus, they're analyzing and figureing out the laws of nature and the fundmental essence of existance. It just so happens lots of others have come along claiming to have already found those answers, just without proof.

    Well I'm not surprised we haven't found the link between humans and apes, considering humans are apes.
