duck tails and star fox immediately come to mind.
i believe i got the biggest pile of loot you can get in duck tails. i would just play it over and over.
and i played star fox to the point that i could beat it without getting hit, and even got to the hidden slot machine/rotating letters. sat there for hours getting it to spell out whatever it was supposed to and the game just sat there. nothing happened.
i still have the babbages promo item (the water bottle) for reserving the game. i didn;t reserve it but bougt it day one and my future manager gave me one.
Too Cool for Top 10 Lists
Daytona USA (Saturn) - I spent countless hours on this (and VF, which I won't count since it was a pack-in) when I first bought the system, and has been in regular rotation when I play my Saturn.
WWF No Mercy - I've spent more time with this than any other wrestling game. I was hooked on it when I first got it, and I remain addicted to it over five years later. It remains one of the most versatile wrestling games, and I'll probably never stop playing it because of that.
Tetris DS - This is easily my newest old gaming addiction. I'll never tire of wi-fi play, or being able to see new records in Endless.
VFs 2-V Evo - They've all given me more than my money's worth, but since the other two were freebies, I'll only count these. VF 2 has aged well, 3's unique stuff holds up, and both versions of 4 remain fun.
WCW vs. the World, WCW vs. NWO: World Tour, WCW/NWO Revenge, WWF WrestleMania 2000, Virtual Pro Wrestling 2, Toukon Retsuden, and Toukon Retsuden 2 round out the wrestling games I've gotten a lot of use from. Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3 (along with Super Mario World), Sonics 1-3, and Columns are also games I get a lot of use from today.

Animal Crossing: Wild World - $35
Considering I haven't had a break at work with nothing to do since I got it, I'd say it was worth it. The scary thing is I hated it the first hour and would've traded it right then if it had been convenient.
Thief Gold - $30? $40? $20?
I don't remember what I paid but it doesn't matter. If it was $200 it would've been worth it. I spent so much time on the main game and the fan-made missions, for awhile I was more Garrett than Compass.
Final Fantasy VIII - $50
I remember thinking once while playing this game, if somebody gave me a choice, either stop and never finish FFVIII, or never see your girlfriend again... well, it would've been a tough decision. And I really liked the current girlfriend. But I was *that* into my favorite Final Fantasy yet (blah blah, everyone hates VIII, yes, I'd played the SNES revs, Squall's a dick, etc. etc.). I was quite absorbed. 95 hours into that game, many on Triple Triad (but I got every card! and received... er, a star I think).

morrowind- i probably put in about 300 hours with mods and all, maybe morein fact, when id play an mmo and burn out on it, id go back and play morrowind and all of a sudden, id feel better, oblivion has not been modded and expanded, but i getthe sneaking suspicion that it will share this distinction soon.
city of heroes/villians/accountants- i shudder to think how much time i have played, i have 12 alts whom i play at varying stages, i pvp pretty heavily, i hunt badges, and i like the social community(reminds me of the old phantasy star online crowd before the dupers and jackasses became really prevelant and you had to be afraid to give out your friend card.)
phantasy star online- where my name comes from, i think frostwolf the hucast had about 300 hours when i hit 100, then i deleted him and found out that version 2 would have 100+ content, doh. i am pretty sure i put in at least 800 hours spread over all the different versions, and thats probably conservative, it was really my first online "rpg" type game, and i got really into it, i found out alter that my coworkers had thought i was on drugs at that time period but really it was because i was playing from 9-5 am and then getting up at 10 to start playing again till i worked at 3. i looked a bit bedraggled. i guess i have the pkers and screen freezers for saving me from it, the decline in the crowd was the main reason i quit.
ninja gaiden-the nes version, i bat the game multiple times, and then i found about the trick where you can prevent yourself from doing the sword spin art by holding down and slashing. with that trick, i could beat it by dying one time, after you destroy the gem that has your father and then have to fight the flying jaquio, it removes your arts, so i couldnt use my sword spin.
berzerk-atari 2600, this and q-bert were obsessions of mine, when i got the home versions my grades plummeted , lost my atari about 2 tiems a marking period because id play these for hours and not do any homework.
legend of zelda- before the internet, this game was the primary topic of discussion for every male in my school grade, we shard tips, maps, et-cetera, one of the games that defined my gaming life.

played it so damn much that after i saw the first Shadow dream sequence i had to get enough gold to stay at the inn's enough times to see the rest. simply beautiful for it's time and still a game i occasionally pick up from time to time. the music is godly as well.
seems like so far all my picks have been older games. i think before mod chips and emulators i was forced to appreciate things for what they were and have to save up long and hard for them. quite a different time back then.

Snatcher - $20 blow out at FuncoLand. I went on a skiing trip with my family just as I was starting to get into the game, so I brought the system with me (CDX Fool!) and played the game all the way through all night. I almost fell asleep while snowboarding down the mountain the next day.

ahh yes. for some reason there were certain games that never really made it to "retail" in my area. snatcher and the original phantasy star being two of them. i found snatcher brand new for $10 when a local video factory went out of business, and a previously in store played (but mint and complete) phantasy star 1 at the local toys r us in a discount action figure bin for $4. like i said, i never saw either during their normal runs on racks anywhere in my city. played the hell out of both of them.

Radiant Silvergun - I've clocked 100's of hours into this game. I'm thinking along the lines of around 700+. I didn't save my progress to memory card, so had have to start over again each time my battery died. Its kind of a game for me, earning all my progress back....but it keeps me playing over and over again.
King of Fighters 94, 95, 96, 97, 98 - I can't tell you how much fun I've had with these.
