You beat me to it! Damn yous! Oh, and DKC was a perfectly acceptable platformer wrapped up in a great looking and sounding package. I haven't played them in a while, but I always enjoyed the DKCs. I enjoyed 3 the least since it didn't really do anything new and added a fetch quest vibe to the game.

Go ahead and find any pre-94 DK art that's remotely aesthetically appealing.

The screen you posted showing the arcade's sprites is appealing to me. I'm a big fan of Nintendo's arcade era character designs. They have a classic cartoon charm to them. If you mean DK art outside of game screens like cabinet and box art then yeah most of that is pretty ugly.

And I never complained about the tie; it's the face design I don't like. It doesn't really bug me anymore though as post-Rare DK designs(Jungle Beat, DK: King of Swing) have improved upon the look a lot even though they're based on Rare's design. I would say Jungle Beat is artistically the best game in the series with enemy designs that resemble Pikmin and Wind Waker.

So yeah, it's not an issue of right or wrong but a design preference. I like the way Mario and Link evolved as characters but not the DKC version of Donkey Kong.

I loved the first DKC game. I played it forever and found all the hidden bonus rooms. I really used to dig the music too. I remember getting this tape in the mail for free. It is probably still at my mom's house somewhere.
