I read this and was like wtf, but then I thought about it and you are right. Considering how many games came out on the NES that percentage is probably right. I still to this day play the obvious games like the Mega Mans, Mario, Zelda, Castlevania.. but outside of 25 maybe 50 games tops the rest just don't cut it.Originally Posted by diffusionx
Considering that I am an NES whore, this number is likely much lower for allot of people.
Exactly, 16 bit was technically superior but it isn't as cut "n" dry as some would like to think.Originally Posted by Cheebs
bah, i forgot about double dragon 2.
there were some games that i played when i first got my nes but then there were others i didn't find out about until high school. i was still playing my nes when everyone had already moved onto snes and genisis 'cause i really couldn't afford the other systems at the time. i think i got a better appreciation of some games because of this, though. anyone else have that kinda situation?
One area of the NES library I didn't fully appreciate until later is its ports of pre-NES arcade games. Donkey Kong Junior is awesome and has improved controls over the arcade and Gyruss is quality remake, for examples. I didn't bother much with the NES versions back in the day much because I had played them so many times on previous systems and I wanted to play the newer stuff more at the time.
'Favourite' is the Canadian way of spelling that. Also the British way. Pretty much the way for every English speaking country who follow the English language rules.
As for NES all sucking? That's completely untrue. I've spent the last week re-discovering NES games and a lot of them are extremely fun but just because we have better technologically sound games now doesn't mean they weren't great in their time.
That's like saying well Einstein is old news now, so whatever he said must be a null and void.
Some of the posts in this topic are extremely helpful though and I thank you for that! Time to get on ebay and hunt down some of these.
Dusty Diamond Baseball! I totally remember that! Damn, gotta get that ASAP. I just finished playing Baseball Stars. It was fun.
1. Nobody said the games were not great in their time. People just said they werent great now.Originally Posted by jonas
2. Your Einstein analogy is clever but not in the way you intended. Einstein's theories have not yet been disproven and even if they were, he would still command great respect. Even when we look at a guy like Ptolemy, who was wrong on virtually every thing he hypothesized, we still respect him for his inquisitive nature and the work he did. Even if its outdated.
Kind of like the NES.
I've not played Baseball Stars. I should check it out.Originally Posted by jonas
Something else that might interest you is the Japanese version of Dusty Diamond. Think it's called Softball Tengoku. Yeah, that's it. It's basically the same but all the characters are animals. Well, 95% of them.
Here's a cool write-up:
