Did you get this game through your mobile provider, or did you find a place to get it online? I picked up a new phone this afternoon (Samsung t509, awesome phone) and I browsed the games a little while ago, and it's not on T-zones anymore, despite Hudson saying it should be, and Hudson won't sell the file direct. As many times as I've played through it, it'd be nice to be able to have it on there, if it can run, heh.
I have a samsung phone with verizon...

...meaning that it's close to impossible just to put a fucking ringtone on the phone.

That sucks about not being able to get Hudson games, though.

nah you didnt lose, you realized it was total garbage and not even up to the declining standard that the final fantasy name still holds. so you won by quitting playing. it took me till after i got the ragnarock that i won final fantasy 8.

i got stuck in eternal darkness, in the indiana jones type level, i didnt figure that i should send in the little summon monster to get me the one rune, so when i got the the canadian firefighter level, where you need that specific rune to control the one giant monster to kill the other one. it wouldnt have been bad if the rune was exactly in front of that level, as i learned long ago to maintain 3 cascading saves. but the levels were fairly far apart, so i got stuck and for as much as i enjoyed the game, it ticked me off too much to get started again and eventually finihs it. pity, it was a great game till that massive design flaw.

I don't think FF8 was a garbage game. It's kind of ignorant to single out a specific Final Fantasy as a weak game because they all have the exact same gameplay. The story and characters of 8 didn't interest me but I kept playing because the gameplay was solid. I remember it being a good challenge as well.

I never beat it because I never managed to get ahold of the 4th disc when I played it. I spent so many hours maxing out my junctioned magic, like Ultima and shit. I'm pretty sure I lost my save file and I wouldn't want to go through all of that again. Maybe when Square remakes it for PS3 and PSP...

Not true, the game had that magic draw system. Which was beyond horrible.

But even if it did have the exact same gameplay, then it lives and dies with the story. And the story and characters were awful.

Which means, the game was horrible and awful.

Ahh... you have a point. Reusing the same thing all of the time isn't necessary the best thing to do. But the new systems that they add on top of the same old gameplay do keep the series fresh... sometimes.

Thinking about the junctioning system, it did slow down gameplay quite a bit. I always felt the need to worry about even unimportant battles when I didn't need to fight because there was always that worrying about having enough magic.

Even though 8 may be weaker than many other Final Fantasies, I still believe there's enough there to keep my interest.

I can't imagine trying to play any more of Baten Kaitos, for instance. I bought it when it came out and forced myself to love it for being a Gamecube RPG. But eventually I just stopped playing it. Seems so incredibly dull to me. I always got the feeling that I didn't know what the fuck I was doing in that game. And don't even want to imagine going back to it. I think I only played about 10 hours.

  6. the board ate my post but diff summed it up for me, the ganeplay elements of final fantasy retain some of the same basic elements but each one usually has specific elements that differentiate the rules and gameplay of the games. now, as an old pnp'er i am pretty sensitive to basic alterations in the games gameplay, so there are enough differences to make the games distince in those subtle variations(ok diff didnt say that stuff, buut) an equally important part of the final fantasy series is the story and characters, and in my eyes, as well as diffs and many others, ff8 was a real low point. i found it to be trite, poorly written kojima-esque babble with poor pacing, leaps of logic that paralysed any haalthy suspention of disbelief, and characters that were unlikeable and poorly developed. so as a guy who really liked the series up to and including 9, 8 was a major letdown, and thus people who quit playing, as i snarked, were the real winners.

I never bothered with 8. I thought it looked stupid with gunblades and shit. I also haven't played anything past 9. The art design these days is just silly.

I'm not sure if I really won, but thanks. Since I also played Final Fantasy 9 and 10, quitting both (halfway and final boss). Or maybe I won three times.

  9. Here's the FF order of excellence if anyone's curious:

    1. VIII
    2. VII
    3. IV
    4. X-2
    5. VI
    6. IX
    7. I
    8. V
    9. X

I never played II or III so those aren't included. Hope this clears things up.

I got stuck on the same part.

My Ramza was a monk and shit, so he just ran away and powered up his attack for a long time. I mean a long, long time, then healed when it was necessary. Power up, heal, power up, heal over and over again.

I one-shotted the first form and two-shotted the next.

The second time I played the game I knew what I was doing and my party didn't suck so I destroyed him utterly.

Wait until you get to the mission where the assassins on the roof kill that chick before you even have a chance to move since you never made a ninja. Lols.
