I think it's an East Coast thing because my ex from Baltimore and my friend from NY both called them "paddles".

My Theory is that since the Paddle controlers from the 2600 were the only ones that said anything on them, people just started thinking thats what the were all called.

if the Joystick said "Joystick" on them, it might be different.

A few years ago I was playing Grandia 2 at my grandparents and after watching me fight some battles and what not the only thing she asked was "why do you make them walk in a line? how do you do that?" A few hours later I hear her tell my mom "I just can't get over how they walk in a line, that's so sweet."

Some years before that she saw my cousin playing Donkey Kong Country and was wondering why he was holding the controller and pressing buttons if he was watching the tv.

I'm so used to how games work that it's interesting to hear a reaction to them from someone who doesn't know what a start button is.

For those others who work in retail, how many times a day are you asked if you have "any PS2 (or xbox, gamecube,whatever) games", only to discover after much sluething that the person is looking for a SYSTEM.
I hear crazy shit all day long.

I remember playing Street Fighter Alpha 2 at my grandmother's house with my cousin and we both were playing Shotakan characters(I don't remember which one) and we were having a fireball fight and my grandma was watching. Then she says "Aldofee... Aldofee Aldofee what the hecks with all this Aldofee?" That shit was funny to me

When I setup up my 360 at my mom's house, I didn't think she'd notice it was a new system. I figured she'd think it was one of my older ones I just pulled out to play. But one day I was playing it and she walked in and surprisngly asked, "So this is Bill Gates's new system?" I guess she's not as clueless about video games as I thought.

I learned that one on the job at Six Flags Darien Lake in the Arcades, a little kid must've asked me for 5 minutes for a case quarter and I had no clue what the hell he was talking about. JUST ASK ME FOR A QUARTER.
