Thread: LOL @ HD-DVD

I can't wait for this same thread to repeat itself when the PS3 overtakes the 360 in late 2009 or 2010 as well.

let me rephrase it for you then.

Blu-Ray losing would not make me call and email warner officials, and i am big on blu-ray. HD-DVD lost, relax, if youre like the many people who did jump into the format war on the hd-dvd side you got some great deals on media and players, so you didnt lose a lot in it. Your player still works, your movies still work, they arent going to STOP working.

As for porn, porn chose the internet.

stop being so dramatic about it.

IBTN. I have an HD-DVD player, but it was $100 and came with 7 movies. What do I care if the format wins or loses?

J2D posted this in the PS3 thread:
The concept of copying a lower-resolution version of a film from a packaged media disc to a portable device is not new--in fact, late last year, Fox and Warner released the first standard definition titles to offer this capability (on Live Free, Die Hard and Harry Potter: The Order of the Phoenix, respectively).

Sony today demonstrated the next level of disc copying. At the company's booth at CES, Sony demonstrated how you could put a Blu-ray Disc movie into a Playstation 3 and copy the film to a Playstation Portable or a Memory Stick. "This way, you can have a portable copy you can take with you," explains David Bishop, president of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

"There was always the promise of greater interactivity. You'll see that coming in the new year," Bishop added. In addition to the PSP copying example, Sony also demonstrated how you could download ring tones and new content to a BD Live player, using Men in Black as the example.

BD Live is proving to be a big catchphrase at the show: Panasonic announced its BD Live player yesterday, Fox showcased an early version of its Alien vs. Predator multiplayer game at the Blu-ray Disc Association's booth, and Sony showed its interactive Men in Black trivia game. The game was being played by two people in two locations on a Playstation 3.

It would hardly matter by then. We'd be waiting for the next generation in 2010.

I hope that's the case, but I doubt it.

  7. Consoles usually come in 4-5 year cycles. Unless the model is changing.

If PS3 takes over in late 2009 or early 2010, I think that would be a lot like the SNES finally overtaking the Genesis when the next generation was already in sight. I don't think you could call that a clear victory for Sony.

Everyone seems to want generations to come slower for some dumbass reason. It wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft dropped the 360 like a bad habit in 2010 though to try to jump out ahead again.

They were pretty fast to shove the original Xbox out of stores, so I absolutely wouldn't doubt they would do it again.

That thing about PSP copies of movies on Blu-ray discs is pretty cool... but does this also mean that I can use Netflix to build an enormous library of PSP movies?

That's an interesting question. I suspect they've thought of a way to prevent that.
