Herd animals do plenty of things to protect their own. Zebras run in opposing circles around the herd to confuse predators. Elk, deer, caribou, etc. will run down wolves who get too close to the herd. In fact, large predators usually only go after animals that have been separated from the herd, because instinct and/or experience tells them that running headlong into a herd is a good way to get yourself trampled and gored.Originally Posted by buttcheeks
