Sony Digital Camcorder Questions

So I'm off to Disney in two weeks, and I still need to pick out a camera. I'm a complete camera noob, and am considering this one due to its pricing and options. My question is about quality and support:

- How well do Sony camcorders hold up?
- I can't afford a DVD camcorder, and this one does digital and 8mm. Is that considered "obsolete" in this day and age, or are most cameras like this?
- How well does Sony support its products? There's a Sony Store here in the mall, but I've never owned a Sony product outside of the Playstations.

I wouldn't buy from the sony store unless you know it's a good price. Thier outlet stores have some nice deals on b-stock merchandise sometimes, but the regular Sony Style shops have never seemed that great.

What about cassettes? Are camcorders all digital now, or are 8mm cameras still the norm? I don't want to buy something that's going to be obsolete in a few months.
