I sat in on some "sex in games" roundtables/lectures at GDC earlier this year and Second Life was mentioned a lot. It's sort of a haven for sexual deviants that also like games (sorta).
I suppose this is enough of a game for me to post this thread here.

Anyone ever play this? For those unfamiliar, it's a totally open-ended, user-created sim with just about anything you can imagine. Make your own MUD, city, castle, cyberprostitute, whatever you want.
My girlfriend started playing it a month or so ago and she already has her own business making fingernails, dresses and other Goth shit. Her shop is right next to an enclave of Warhammer 40K furries, which I understand to be the ninth circle of dork hell.

i have a friend that tried it, and said a lot of good things about it, its almost entirely user created, so the content depends entrely on the imagination of the users, hence the amout of porn on there, but there are also some interesting creative things being done on it, some of the user created models look quite professional, its certianly interesting from a "sandbox for the artistic" perspective, but its kind of iffy on being a real game.

Hey so we could see Sl1p again if we wanted!
www.gamesetwatch.com has a series of articles on Second Life, though I've never read them as I find the whole thing vaguely creepy.

Second Life is just so repellant, in part because the Wired scene has hooked its pretentious claws into it.

I have always liked the idea of a virtual world although I don't think this concept has been done well yet. From what I briefly played of Second Life it seems really clunky in interface and really drab in style so it didn't entice me to stay long. I might give it another try but if I run into sexual deviant freaks I'm stopping.
There was a Mining the Internet elective in my major last semester, and this game was actually used as part of the class. For what reason, I don't know. I saw one of the kids from the class messing around with it one day when I was in studio, and all I remember was he was a devil characters, and he was fucking a big tittied blonde chick.
Second Life FTW. Except the game looked like absolute shite.
