and, er...why not? you now believe cops 100% all of a sudden? we know he dorve drunk, we know he said soemthing mean, but, to jump on it as being proven that he went on a wild, anit-semitic tirade, or any kind of tirade that would have long term repurcussions on his career if true, then yeah, we need more than a report on the internet. when did i mention a jury again?

Because that's what innocent until proven guilty refers to. That, or a judge.

    irony

"Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs"

If he wasn't expecting Mel to get pulled over today and start yelling antijewish slurs, then yes it could be ironic for him.

For everyone else that already knew Mel hates everyone that isn't catholic, not so much.

BUT on second thought, he was saying that it was ironic that someone that wanted to prove him wrong made this thread, proving him wrong.

There is nothing unexpected about that. =/

dramatic irony actually, in the transcript Gibson "was fixated on his notoriety and was worried that it was going to be publicised", the person that posted the thread was someone who had, for quite some time, disliked him, and posted this thread with just a hint of glee, hence the behavior of the actor in question was ironic because he publicised the information on this site, in much the same manner that gibson was a fraid was going to happen. so yeah, dramatic irony, any other questions?

(and note before anyone starts accusing me of being anti-semitic, this is based entirely on sleeves well known dislike of gibson, not his religion, i figured someone is going to try to throw the low card out there soon so id better preemptively take care of it)

right, we get that, neither has verified exactly which things he said and thus its not exaclty proven what he said. care to respond to the rest of the post?

A judge doesn't determine your innocence from a DUI. You're either caught drunk or not.

As for proof, I'd say Mel apologizing for the things he said and did is proof enough that this isn't just some wacky news made up for site hits: http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Movi...dui/index.html

  8. My point is Reagan sucks.

Also, I want everyone to look at Mel's comments and remember them. -That- is what an anti-semite sounds like. Someone who merely criticizes the state of Israel does not do the same thing and should not be labeled as such. More than any other, the charge of anti-semitism is misapplied.

its pretty well established that he was driving drunk, thats not what we are discussing, we are discussing wether its safe to assume that he made anti-semitic statements. if you read his apology, you dont see anything specific about what he said, just that he said things he was ashamed of now. There is no argument that he drove drunk and made an ass of himself, the question is, was he a belligerant lout, or a virulent anti-semite. minds have been made up already by innuendo, but id like to see something a bit more concrete, im picky like that, remember how the duke lacrose players were definitly guilty of rape? now we dont hear much about it, because a lot of the "Facts" have been called into question, the court of public opinion had already made up their minds, same here, proof before beleif.
