Thread: Serious Question for Tournament Gamers

  1. Serious Question for Tournament Gamers

Tournament gaming is become hot now a days and I propose a question for those who have and for those who thought of playing in video game tournaments. And before I ask this question I'd like to tell you about a major sport that does what I'm going to ask. The sport of golf as we all know is an expensive sport to play. Even professionals have to pay pretty hefty entrance fees in order to win a large payout and time and time again they put up the money to do so. So my question for you is would you pony up say 100 dollars in a video game tourney in order to win say 1500 dollars?

  2. I'd pony up 100 dollars to win 1500 no matter what kind of thing it was...if I thought I had a great shot of winning.

  3. Depends heavily on the size of the field.

Yes, I wouldn't enter unless I felt that I had a real shot at winning. I'd definitely enter a fighting game tourney or an FPS one.

  5. Sometimes 500$ money matches happen in fighting games so no, 100 for a 1500+ pay out isn't too bad depending on what game it is, and how many peeps and what chance you have to win.

  6. it depends on how big the thing is. if it was one of the major ones with all the big names entering (i'm thinking about fighting game tourneys mostly like 3rd strike and stuff like that) i may pay 50 bucks to take a shot at them or see how far i could get. not 100. but...maybe i'd pay 100 to go up against some locals or something like that.

  7. I wouldn't put a dime down if I wasn't confident I'd atleast earn back my investment.

  8. Entrance fees to fighting game tourneys like Evolution are about $30. First place prize is $5,000, and smaller prizes are awarded for 2nd, 3rd and 4th places, as well (maybe even more).

At $30, it's worth it even if you're not going to win. Just being a part of a tournament like that is pretty fun. A few days of entertainment for $30 ain't bad.

I wish I knew what is was like to live somewhere with tournaments.

  10. If it was a 2D fighting game, especially Street Fighter Alpha/Zero 2, yeah, I'd be willing to put up or shut up. I stay the fuck away from Halo/Halo 2, because I'd get my ass handed to me quick.
