Thread: The war against terror

  1. The war against terror

Why not dedicate a seperate thread to this subject.

I'm on vacation, I don't like sports, so this is pretty much my Wimbledon or Tour de France of the summer.

According to the latest reports, Israel is expanding its operations. I just watched some of the news networks and apparently there are massive barrages going on right now onto towns in Southern Lebanon. Seems like the ground operation has entered it's first phase. I'd hate to be an Israeli soldier fighting nighttime CQB with the Hizbollah.

The hearts and minds they are supposedly attempting to convince won't buy that.
I guess the war of the hearts and minds ended when Lebanon failed to disarm Hizbollah as agreed upon on UN resolution 1559. When all political options are exhausted, the military takes over. I think the war for the hearts and minds were primarily led by USA and the UN, not Israel.
I'm sure Israel would want peace by negotiation, but I think they stopped believing in that scenario a long time ago.

Hizbollah has never fought their cause in a legit way, they are terrorists because they kill civilians on purpose. I don't think you know just how ruthless an organisation they are, they truly earned their label "terrorist". They have been deemed a terrorist organisation by the majority of the global community. (not Iran or Syria naturally).

Hamas never wanted to remove that clause in their political manifest that aimed for the destruction of Israel. It would be futile to enter negotiations with them. The Israeli Arabs were fools to vote them into power in Gaza.

Hizbollah are more than a political party, they are first and foremost an armed terrorist organisation. I believe they are a parasite on Lebanon and when and if they are gone, no one will miss them. And to fall back on old clichees; the nazi party was also a political party.

Hizbollah are not the Lebanese army. No one has an issue with the legitimate Lebanese army. The whole terrorist label boils down to targeting civilians to instill fear and reach political aims. It's in essense political violence.

If you didn't sell them that bomb, then someone else would, or they would have manufactured it themselves.
If you had a gun store, sold me a gun and I wen't out and shot someone, then you wouldn't have any responsibility.

Hizbollah was aiming for confrontation. I think 500 Katusha and Qassam rockets were fired into Israel this year alone. And this was before the soldiers were kidnapped! Their aim is the destruction of Israel, that is why all this is happening. UN and Lebanon is to blame for allowing Hizbollah to build-up near the border. The final drop, the kidnapping of the soldiers gave Israel the excuse to act.

I disagree. For Hizbollah the war against Israel never stopped for one second. It's an eternal struggle for them and it would be foolish of Israel to let their arms down, even for a second. I still honestly believe Israel wants a prosperous Lebanon which doesnt threaten their borders. I also honestly believe that Israel feels regrets for the civilian casualties on both sides.

I guess both uses are fair. Marskittens family is from Lebanon and she used Hizbollah as well. No matter how you spell or say it, it still comes out ugly. Try saying it in a sexy voice, it just doesn't work.

  6. This is why we need to reopen dakidski's TNL Court case. We need a conviction.
