Okay, finally saw it yesterday. I can read this thread now.
GREAT movie. Fixed everything that was wrong with Batman Begins, especially the rapid-fire editing in the fights scenes. I could see what was happening now. Plus, I love how the new Batsuit looks. The old one was horrible.
Loved the overal design, lighting, the writing, everything. And since this made 155 mil this weekend, I guess Christopher Nolan can do whatever the fuck he wants in Hollywood now.
Plus, for a 2 1/2 hour long movie, it didn't drag. At all. You could feel it was long, but in this rare instance that was a GOOD thing. I just wanted it to go on.
Bale did a great job as usual. Personally, I think he held up his end of the bargin as well as any one else in the movie- I didn't feel anyone overshadowed him, like all the reviews have been saying.
Ledger's Joker was amazing. Jack's 1989 Joker was silly, over the top, and bigger than life. You just felt he was a silly clown and not actually dangerous. But Ledger played it like a total grungy psycho. There was not one second where I thought "hey, that's Heath Ledger on the screen." No, he was the Joker, and he made the role his own. I loved the make-up, the outfit, the scars (and how he told a different story about how he got them to everyone). Ledger got it right- the only person laughing as the sick shit he does should be the Joker. He walked the line between being funny and disturbing perfectly.
LOL @ "Let me show you a magic trick" and "Now we're talking!" I even got a laugh when he was clapping at Gordon's promotion.
That said, however- anyone that thinks Ledger deserves an Oscar is out of their fucking minds. He was great, yeah, but Oscar-worthy? Hell no. He's getting people's pity votes, that's all.
Speaking of the Joker, there was this girl at the movie who was dressed in the sluttiest Harley Quinn outfit ever. She had the face paint white, the bandit mask, but a tiny, tiny miniskirt that showed off her asscheeks. It was awesome.
Onward...
In addition to Ledger's role being awesome but a tad overrated, The Dark Knight as a whole doesn't deserve any Oscars. It's one of the best comic book movies ever, yeah, but people are going totally ga-ga over it, and it's all just because of the hype. I would place it on par with Iron Man, although they're both completely different types of movies.
Everyone else was good. I liked Harvey Dent a lot, but Two-Face as a character seemed unnecessary until you thought of him less as a villian and more as a part of the Joker's overall plan. An unwilling and tragic chess piece, so to speak.
Alfred rocked as usual. I loved it when Bruce joked that he wanted to say the Batman thing was all his idea.
Maggie was okay. Some people are saying she was kinda...I dunno, ugly, but I thought she was cute. Most of the time anyway. I'll admit that here and there the camera would catch her at a somewhat unflattering angle, and those bags under her eyes...
I liked the little Sonny Lister scene. I wasn't expecting him to chuck the remote out the window. Nice touch.
And wow, they didn't kill the Joker. I had heard they had plans for him in the sequel, so I kinda expected him to live. Guess he's open for re-casting now.
So, overall, great fucking movie. A bit overhyped overall, but it still delivers.
