I read it described elsewhere, can't remember where, but they got it right: the Joker is ten times creepier and deranged when he is laughing hysterically at things that wouldn't be considered the least bit funny to a normal person. Like say, just beating someone to death with a baseball bat while humming a showtune. Much better than elaborate pranks and one-liners.

I believe this news x 1000000. That's what made the Batman Animated series Joker so damn good, he had that laugh. He's be blowing up a ship full of people with this crazy laugh at the same time.

They got it right in the series sometimes, but not all the time. The basic idea is that the Joker is not supposed to be funny at all, he is supposed to make you uncomfortable by what he finds funny.

it's true, burton's batman is THE BATMAN. Batman Begins was very cool but not as cool as the former.
