Thread: Music Gear Discussion

  1. 1) Regarding that guitar-scale bass up there, it's looks nice. My first bass is guitar scale. Best $40.00 ever.

    2) I am in need of my own amp again, being that the Crate I've had since '07 was sold. So far Crates sound good to my ears, but I understand that they are now being manufactured in Asia, which is off-putting, as I really liked the sound the U.S. made one I had put out. Despite filthiness when I recorded those vids, it actually had nice natural distortion to my ears. Even kind of had it's own natural flange effect. So, in short, anyone know of a good make/model of practice amp that sells for less than $200.00 new? I've been using my best friends Ibanez 25 Watt, and I have to say, it sounds terrible to me; I don't know if being Japanese has anything to do with it, but it doesn't have the gut-punch that the Crate had. I know everyone's ears are different, and try-before-you-buy, but I also know there's a few folks here who know might be able to point me in the direction I'd like to go. So... any suggestions?

  2. I'm not really familiar with what practice amps are like these days, but i strongly recommend considering getting something used. There is just so much more bang for your buck and you can sell it for the price you bought it once its time to upgrade. All i can say is to stay away from Behringer amps as they're awful.

Maybe have a search around the forums at www.talkbass.com, it is a huge source of info for anything bass related.

  3. Old Peavey stuff on craigslist.

I got a Peavey Century 200 and a 1x15 for $175. You can actually use that in a band.
    Boo, Hiss.

Yeah, get an old Peevee, or perhaps a mid 80's Fender combo. New gear is for dumbass suckers, so don't do it.

Who records demos at home? Who always leaves their fucking tuner at their practice spot? Oh... all of you do? Ok... cool. Peep this ill shit.

  6. I got one of these: http://nashlinks.com/truetone.jpg

for $85 at this weird auction. It's small and feels good to play, but I can't get it to break up the amp because the pickup is too far from the strings and isn't adjustable

I got one of these: http://www.delta9studios.com/images/gear/Silvertone.jpg

From my girlfriend's brother for free (he's a metal guy). It has the same problem as the other guitar and the intonation is sort of bad since the bridge is just a slanted piece of wood

but they're good for practice because they're so small and comfortable

    That trutone is bad ass.

  8. I haven't posted in here in years, but figured I'd show my current setup at home for a lil variety.

I have some new studio/DJ headphones coming in hopefully Monday. My old headphones are bout ready to be retired. But as you can see I'm running my laptop with ableton live 8, trigger finger on the right, oxygen 49 in the middle, my new APC 40 on the left and a 500 gig external hard drive.

I'm really excited about this that I picked up today.

I'm super excited about my new APC 40, and it fires up and is fun to play with right out the box. I was jamming on one of my already made DJ setups for a good while. So i'm expecting to just lay low for awhile and dive into learning this piece of gear and setting it up for a new and improved live DJ/performance setup and doing future gigs. I think I may set this up in the den tonight and just jam out in the dark with the pretty light show. Goodbye social life for a month or two, the combo of this and live 8 will have me busy. I'm already working on new effect racks, chopping up more drum breaks, samples, music. I'm just really excited about the thought of doing some crazy live shows with the APC/trigger finger combo which should be more entertaining to watch than someone clicking a mouse behind a laptop. I really wish we were having laptop battle here this year... but oh well (sniffle)

P.S OH and you can save your templates for the APC and trade em/share with other APC users. When max for live comes out later this year they should be some nice custom patches out too. I've seen one that turns the button grid into a nice step sequencer like the monome/tenori-on.

I don't think that is the problem. What are you playing through?
