Thread: Music Gear Discussion

  1. Haven't posted in a while. Since my Epiphone LP made such a splash, I figured I'd treat you to another. This is a discontinued Ibanez - -an AFS 77T - - that I picked up off of Craigslist for a steal. Alas, it was in southeast Alhambra, which is a serious shithole, and the actual "house" was so god awful that I thought about bailing.(I had just finished a trial and came straight from court, standing out like sore thumb.) Anyway, the guitar was in great shape, but needed a serious set-up, including filing down the nut and setting the floating bridge properly. Now it plays very well -- even stays largely in tune after cranking on the Bigsby. It's a full hollow body (but thinline), with a very interesting tone - - surprisingly thick, and not particularly twangy at all. The pictures don't show it, but the fit and finish on the guitar are really impressive for what amounts to a budget axe - - creme binding all over, including the f holes; abalone on mother of pearl inlays; black on black hardware with open pick ups, etc. I love playing it - -plugged in or acoustic. I admit I hadn't been very interested in Ibanez before, but this guitar made me take a much closer look.

Is that one of the old ones? It's a pretty sweet looking guitar.

  3. Thanks. It really is a looker - - can't see it in the picture too well, but the main finish is flecked metallic gray. This is one of Ibanez's many "Artcore" models. It isn't all that old - -I believe the 77t had a 1 or 2 year run around 2004. It sounds great clean, but I'm really surprised how good it sounds overdriven. No major feedback issues, which you might expect with a hollowbody. Even the tech was impressed with the build.

    you live in Alabama?

  5. Recommend me some pa speakers for a restaurant.

I'm looking at a pair of powered mackie srm 450.

Some sort of mixer with at least 5 xlr inputs.

I've been out of the live sound gig for 12 years.
    Boo, Hiss.

I'm just going to recommended Pee-Vees and Media Matrix stuff. JBL shit would probably be good too.

I have a hard time caring about pa and mixer stuff. It always feels like a form of diminishing returns. It isn't "fun" like amps and most audience members are so oblivious that they can't tell the difference between good shit and bad shit. And throw in bad room acoustics and asshole sound guys and you just have a big ball of meh.

    *steps off soap box*

sure hope someone here can help you though!

I took my St. George the Knight II to my tech yesterday. No power transformer (spooky!) bizarro tubes (hard2find!) 2 watts of output power (awesome!) needs a recap (pricey!) the tubes and all the guts are mounted directly to the faceplate (quality!)

No regrets. I might build a combo cab for it.

can I have all your stuff when you finally kill yourself with those death minis?

  9. #4499
    You have 4th dibs.

If I get that thing grounded, and never use it while anywhere near a mic I should be alright? Right?

  10. Zvex nano amp.
    Boo, Hiss.
