Thread: Music Gear Discussion

Thanks! I dig them both quite a bit. The thinline I play at home, at shows, at practice, and record on it. It is my all time favourite guitar.

Finding the perfect guitar (even if it's just perfect for now) is the best feeling.

  2. Here's a shot of my Agile tele. Looks ok...sounds amazing.

I have an El Degas tele with a bridge like that. It's dangerous because I go flailing around and scrape my knuckles and rip fingernails off and such. My technique is shit

    I like that sunburst. Classy.

  4. You've identified the very reason why I'm not as comfortable on it as the strat/G&L...the fucking bridge. I bang against it constantly (and not your mom). And yeah, I can't resist burst finishes. Old fashioned, I suppose.

Edit: Behind the guitar you may notice the hulking B-52 2x12. I got it because it was dirt cheap, in brand new condition, and it was weird (I like the oddball stuff). I can't say it's great. I'm not even sure I like it. What I can say is that it weighs a ton and is unbelievably fucking loud. Like molar-rattling loud. Probably why I rarely fire it up.

I really enjoy playing it. Feels great. I got Destiny in the mail today and didn't touch it.

Now I kind of want to get a nice tube amp. Terrible.
I would say there is no better purchase than a good tube amp when it comes to music. I have bought a lot of gear for all sorts of instruments all over the place, and the most important difference was a tube amp.
    Check out Mr. Businessman

Anthony is right. A quality amp will change your whole outlook. Don't get into the wattage game, especially if you're not playing out. I have played shows with an unmiced 7 watt amp and had no issues.

Find another bridge! Rock the casbah. No shame in the sunburst. I have a Korean tele body with the same sunburst, and an old japanese neck waiting to make sweet, sweet love once I find someone that'll put it together for me. I don't do that shit.

I've never played one of those amps. Heavy isn't on the table for me these days, so I probably never will.

I believe it. A guy I know has a Peavey Classic 50 and it sounds so great. That's why I am looking at them. It's just that, well it's a lot of money, and we are trying to be reasonable in our spending, etc.

If it's for the living room you don't really need a 50 watt 2x12. You won't be able to get "that sound" without really cranking it. You could get by with a Fender Superchamp (American Sound) or an Orange Tiny Terror (British sound) and still not be able to turn it up very high. Marshall makes some cool low watt combos too if you're one of those people. Mesa makes a 15 watt combo that is also fairly highly regarded.

Lots of people get amps for their living room/basement that are a bit too beefy, and don't really get to explore their full potential. I play out on an 40 watt Fender and never get the volume up past 4 or so. CVC used to play big stupid outdoor shows, and Hubbitron used a 30 watt amp.

I mean, if you want a big amp I'd be happy to sell you one of my power soaks to go along with it, but it'd be cheaper and smarter to go with something low wattage. If you're in love with that Peavey look at the Classic 20. You're only getting 2ish dB more headroom out of that 50, and who the fuck wants clean headroom anyway?

Also, buy used if you can. It's pretty much always worth it.

    imo and all.

  10. I don't want a 50 watt amp. I live in a 1000sf condo. I was looking at 10-20 at most. Just saying it sounds great and got me looking at tube amps. Thanks for the info though.
