Thread: Music Gear Discussion

What's up with a 140 watt head for recording? I'm not gonna make those power tubes sing without killing everyone within a mile. I wish it was a 309 watt amp. Maybe even 15.

You could put some speakers in an isolation box, and put a mic inside. But thats the kind of thing you build and leave at a studio.

Funny enough, there was a combo planned and even built but never went into production.

Someone will probably mod it one day into what it needs to be, write a good album with it, then the price of them will skyrocket. It was a big step in the direction of what so many tube lovers had been saying they wanted. Its a pity that it was marketed so poorly.

The only thing I can figure is after it get hot, something loosens up or maybe sweat is getting into the pickups. It just seems like it would short out if that was the case, and it's not shorting out, just gets wimpy after an hour or so.

I don't know what the hell to do. I know he wants to keep the thing all original, but I think it's going to need to be rewired.

Yes, have you tested it with other amps and other cables?

But yes, it is possible. Something could be expanding or contracting as the guitar goes from room temperature to the temperature of his body.

He could wrap it in an electric blanket. And see if it starts poorly then. But you know, keep the heat down. You don't want to warp the neck by exposing it to an extreme temperature.

I had never heard of it before you mentioned it.

It doesn't help that Peavee has, like, zero rep outside of metal.

dude, you might be out of touch now. I was shocked, but all these young guys are buying up peavey gear. Like, half of this amp group me and Pacrappa are in on facebook is fucking peavey gear. They post more peavey than Orange.

It figures the kids would dig it after the US stuff became limited. They fired most of their US people in November.

My (totally uneducated) guess: it's the output jack expanding just enough to let the cable slip out some. Is the effect comparable to how if headphones are still plugged in to a walkman but not quite all the way?

I had a guitar do exactly this once. I've heard that using Monster cables will cause it by stripping the jack ever so slightly, but I don't know if it's true.
To boldly go where lots of men have gone before...

I can only go by what I've seen, and I haven't seen a Peavee being used for anything other than metal yet.

  9. You gentlemen are both correct. PV KVLT IS REAL. But it's at least 90% 'metal' with the guitar amps. The bass amps seem to garner a wider appreciation. At least around here. I sure do dig that $60 VTM 60 I got recently. If we end up doing a three piece punky thing I might choose that head to wield.

Get that "if" right outta town.
