Sennheiser HD-280
Just picked these suckers up. So comfortable, and the sound isolation is great. Keep in mind the most I've ever spent on headphones before this pair was probably $20 for some shitty ear buds, so listening to these is like auditory sex.
I'm curious, does TNL not have any DJ's here? I figured since there are so many people on the boards who are actively engaged in music that we'd have at least one or two...
You think those are comfortable? You must have a small head. If I wear them for more than a half hour, I get a headache. I love those headphones for isolation though, great for studio work, especially for people that like the click track really loud (me), and they must be good for DJs too, seeing as though you have to be able to hear what you are cueing up over the house mix. For sound quality though I like the Sony models, particularly the MDR-7506.
I have that exact pair of headphones, and they are one of the best purchases I've ever made. I got them for half the MSRP, too, as Amazon put them on sale around Christmas time of last year.
I use them with pretty much everything: computer programs, video games, CD players, amps, musical instruments, etc.
The only bad thing I have to say about them is that the cord is a little short.
EDIT: I guess I'm another small head, 'cause they are really comfortable for me; I can wear them for hours and they don't fatigue me at all, unlike some other headphones I've tried.
Yeah, I know plenty of people with those. I think both Type Ryan and Josh both have them too. I got a Charlie Brown head, so they make my head hurt after awhile. They do sound great too, but when I A-B tested them vs the Sony's, I like the Sony's better cause they are brighter. Most headphones are too bass heavy for my tastes, and lack any sort of clarity in the highs, but the Sony's are nice and flat sounding to me. They are the only headphones I trust at all to check a mix on.
I am gonna pick up a set of HD280's for myself eventually for drum tracking.
For DJ work there is absolutely nothing in the world like Sony MDR-V600. Sound quality is decent but that is neither here nor there. They isolate themselves from the room better than anything there is/was.
UPDATE:
I have managed to increase my guitar mojo exponentially by adding a sticker:
THat is a bulgey eyed green monster with a tongue that is longer than his body flapping in the wind while doing a frontside air on a skateboard made of a giant pirate's sword. Which is bloody. How ill is that? Anyway it's a vintage Keith Meek Slasher sticker by Santa Cruz and is older than most of the users of this forum. I had to get my boy Larry over here and trade him a crunkass Steadham from the same era to get that thing. Between the two of us we have the most epic collection of 80s skate stickers known to man.
In other news my custom Astroverb arrived the other day. Here's a pic of it in its natural habitat:
What the fuck can I even say? It's everything I ever hoped for in a little combo and ten times louder. I get all the tone I want by just plugging the guitar straight in and cranking the preamp. No Muff necessary!
I have HD280s. I plug in my ipod, put it on the "bass reducer" setting and play along to Ramones records on Mykozo's drum set when he isn't looking. Its perfect.
Pa: I'm jealous of the stack to the left. fuck you.
