It's next on my list. I'm a little broke right now but I imagine I'll have one by the end of April or so. I asked around a bit and have several people chomping at the bit to record with it.
Anyhow I finally replaced the dead speaker in the Lafayette cab last night. After much shopping around and comparison tests I got a Chinese greenback for $50. The Bag End was already in there. It sounds even nicer than before. It's definitely my favorite sounding cab/amp. Here's a pic of the speakers for some unknown reason:
And since some people (especially me) like it so much here's a sweet perspective shot of the head:
I've also got the Grza hard at work building me a Mosrite Fuzzrite which is my current favorite fuzz.
That's what he does. The Grza is my guy for anything I can't do myself. Give it a year and I'll be copying classic fuzzes. I've never looked inside of any other kinds of effects but there's not a whole lot going on inside of most of the fuzzes I've looked at.
Oh man, thanks Aaron. Looks like I'll make me a clone sooner than planned. I like that Tonebender II and I also like the idea of the Muff mods on that Beaver thingy. A kit will be a great way to start.
Thanks again man. That's good stuff. Where to begin though?
Anyhow, has anybody here ever heard of this one movie called "Back to the Future" or something? Well I guess in that movie the main character plugs in a tiny guitar to a giant speaker and gets his ass blown off and all the way across the room. I present you with that guitar found on CL last night:
Size comparison:
I actually went to the guy's house to buy this 5W Les Paul Jr Goldtone:
THe guy was a shrewd salesman. He said "why don't you try it with this guitar?" I was pretty blown away because it is a real solid little little guitar and it actually sounds half decent (the guitar, the amp is great) but my hands are pretty big and this is only a 19" scale so it's kind of a bitch to actually play so I think I'll sell it for profit on the ePay.
You don't want it. It sucks and it looks like it's worth some decent coin which I would like to maximize so I can buy way more radical shit.
In other news it turns out that Gibson amp is the sleeper hit of the summer, In springtime. Anyhow it was getting some jingley noise that I didn't like so I took it apart a little bit. When I saw that the speaker just plugged in with an RCA I made an RCA<1/4 and hooked it up to the Marshall cab. Holy shit it is beautiful. It's kinda like the Orange in that you plug in the guitar directly, crank it and it sounds perfect. Plus it's all hand wired turret style. I snapped some sweet pix:
*edit* shitty Chiquita vid. It sounds kinda cool through the micro amp but when you plug it in to something real it sounds kinda uncool.
PS: I am capable of playing a tiny fraction better than the Chiquita allows me to display. Tiny fraction.
