Yeah, in that field a good portfolio and the right connections count for way more than some fancy degree.
But how will getting a masters degree help you solve this conundrum? I mean, yea you'll meet people and network more but its a pretty fucking expensive way to network. And if employers arent impressed by your superior portfolio do you think they'll be impressed by your superior degree?

Maybe he just wants to learn more.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.
Nothing wrong with that, Im just saying that he might come out with another piece of paper, tens of thousands of dollars in debt, and have the same problems as before.Originally Posted by Omni
I agree with this. Unfortunately the only way to do it is to stick it out in industry related jobs long enough to get your "in". You may, and most likely will, not be doing what you want to do, and this sucks. I know. I disliked what I did so much that I got out of the business for a few years. Hauling around and setting up live audio rigs was not what I went to school for. Not only are you not doing what you like, but finding the time to network, put together demo reels and the such evaporates too. How do you pull this off? You gotta be fucking Superman, and devote just about all of your time to the industry. I've said it a thousand times already, but I will say it again;Originally Posted by Diff-chan

It gets better, but not quickly. Perseverance is the key. A degree may help you negotiate better pay once you get your "in", but it most likely won't help you get the job to begin with. Having said all that, more school is a fantastic way to avoid the real world for a few more years, and I wish I could do it myself.

Two, NYU has good arrangements with a majority of these production houses for setting up internships that go towards your degree. Three, A part of me is leaning towards becoming a technical director which requires a masters.
