Thread: Official Xbox 360 Thread

  1. I already own an Xbox.

I don't care what they do about backwards compatability.

I would care if the 360 was fully compatible like PS2 is with PSone games--lets you retire one console to make room for new ones. But 360 backwards compatibility is so spotty it's really a non-factor. A 360 can't fully replace an Xbox like PS2 replaced the PSone (and PS3 / Wii will replace PS2 / Cube).

  3. Exactly.

Which is why I still own my Xbox and don't care about them adding more games to the 360.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could retire the gigantic old Xbox though?

Wouldn't it be nice if people read more than just one post from a thread?

I agree with you. If I want to play an Xbox game, I'll just use my regular Xbox. If the 360 were were already backwards compatible like the PS2 then that would be cool. However, I really don't care for this form of "emulating" the backwards compatibility.

So, I'll just keep my crappy Xbox hooked up in case I feel the need to play Outrun 2 or Panzer Dragoon.

I'm trying to show Brett the appeal of backwards compatibility, what do you think I missed?

    I modded my Xbox.

It's staying hooked up forever anyway.

The part where he agreed that it'd be nice to completely replace an old system with a new one, but that 360's spotty backwards compatibility doesn't allow that and is thus a non-factor.

You couldnt "retire" a N64, NES, SNES, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, etc.

Hell you cant even really retire an old PC when you buy a new one (look at DOSBox - an emulator for the PC that emulates... a PC).

Backwards compatibility is a new thing, barring of course the early 1980s stuff.
