THE stingray which killed Steve Irwin had not been threatened or harrassed before the fatal attack.
Shocking, yet completely unsuprising at the same time. I mean, you knew it was gonna happen, it was just a matter of when. Really, he lasted longer than anyone would have expected considering the crazy shit he would do.
Still, it's sad. We've all seen his show for years and he seemed like a nice guy who did a lot for animal causes.
I wonder if he was swimming in his usual shorts/safari shirt get-up that he always wears no matter what he's doing?

You know, they got the attack that killed him on film. I wonder if it'll turn up on the net?
I'm not sure if I'd want to see it if it did.

Quick, we must hunt all stingrays to extermination!
R.I.P. Steve.
From what it sounded like on an MSNBC article, he was swimming above the ray while a cameraman was swimming below. They may not have been threatening it in a literal sense, but surrounding an animal like that is seen as a threat from their point of view.
The guy they interviewed from his team said that he wasn't surprised he died at sea... his element was on land, he was quick to react and keen to his surroundings there. He didn't have nearly as much experience underwater, and if an animal snaps there, there's not really a lot you can do short of outswimming it.
you have been on tnl for how long? but anyhow, provocation means different things to animals that are basicly running on instinct , the ray got some giant alien thing swiming up on it, and reacted more out of fear than anything, it was basicly a lucky hit by a scared animal that wanted to get out of danger and scare off a potential persuer
