I've gotten to where I don't want to mix anything with my whiskey or tequila. On the other hand, bloody Marys, screwdrivers and white Russians are wonderful ways to pass the time.

Vodka and cokes + rock and roll shows = me probably throwing up in a trash can by the end of the night. Or if I'm extra lucky, out the door of my car as I'm driving home. If I drink straight vodka I'm able to pace myself a little bit more. I don't do shots unless I'm going to band practice.

Some men are secure enough in their own manhood that they don't feel the need to drink alcohol straight all of the time like its some kind of male qualifier. I suppose you also go hunting and fishing and only like movies starring Steven Segal. Gin and Juice is a marriage which should be celebrated, and actually makes orange juice taste better, while Gin on its own can be harsh, unless its something premium like Millers Reformed or to a lesser extent, Bombay.

A proper mixed drink enhances the taste of the alcohol; it doesn't mask it. I find that crap like flavored vodka, wine coolers, and various other girly drinks generally taste vile and exist for people who aren't willing to learn or haven't yet learned to enjoy alcohol. There is a reason you don't see too many old men drinking Raspberry Smirnoff but you can find it on college campuses across the country.
