  1. News Study: PS3's Lack of Rumble May Lead to Market Share Loss

An Immersion-sponsored survey claims that by failing to include rumble functionality in its controllers Sony is risking losing significant market share with its PS3 in the next-gen console war. Get the details on the Ipsos Insight study inside...

  2. Honestly, I've been a gamer since before anyone even thought of a rumbling control pad, and the lack of rumble in the new controller wasn't even on my radar screen - especially with so many other things to turn me off from the PS3.

  3. These days I barely realize that the controller is rumbling. Maybe it's a sign that I'm so used to it by now, or that it's such a negligable immersion tactic that it doesn't really matter if it's there or not.

Regardless, non-rumble controllers are the least of Sony's worries.

  4. It should be noted that this survey was sponsored by rumble experts Immersion Corporation, the folks who won a major lawsuit against Sony, which many believe is the reason for the lack of vibration in the PS3 controller
Wow. way to try to swoop in and take credit for Sony's bonehead moves of late.

  5. If people aren't going to buy PS3 because the controllers don't rumble, then their priorities are mixed up. Rumbling, recoil, etc. are simply gimmicks.

Time Crisis 3 on the PS2 is the same game as the arcade- and that's all that matters. So what if the GunCon 2 lacks the recoil?

The only thing I can see turning people off from PS3 is the price. $600 is right up there in 3DO-Land.

This guy keyed in on the least important problem.
Giant crabs loom overhead and all he can think of is vibrating plastic.

There are no rules, only consequences.

  7. It was fun for Starfox 64 and then I never cared again.

  8. I cut the motors out of my dualshock2

  9. The PGRs and Rallisports made great use of rumble - making the game feel more realistic by changing the rumble depending upon what kind of surface you were driving on. The lack of rumble is something I count against the PS3, but it isn't something that would sway my decision to buy the system since so few games have made effective use of the technology.
