Thread: Valve Evaluating Future of Episodic Content

  1. News Valve Evaluating Future of Episodic Content

It seems that more publishers are warming up to the idea of episodic gaming, but for now most are simply testing the waters. Valve's Gabe Newell (right) says he's looking to evaluate how Half-Life 2's episodic content has been received before going past Ep. III.

  2. Episodic content as Valve envisions it is a scam.

It's not gonna cost $20 and it's gonna end up coming out a year+ after Episode 1. It's not an episodic content, it's a more expensive regular game with less gameplay. I wouldn't be surprised if one or both of those get spun off, moreso TF2 than Portal, Portal will probably be a 2 hour tech demo anyway.

The idea of episodic content is shorter, cheaper games delivered more often to customers. Valve ain't doing any of that. We'll end up playing "Half-Life 3" (ep1 2 3) by the middle or end of 2008. Four years after HL2. Whoop... I guess.

What Valve is doing is finding a way to charge 3x the price for 1 game while not keeping up with time commitments.
