Thread: Anyone Seeing Any Shows Soon?

  1. I saw them open for Grizzly Bear about a year ago and really liked it. I did think that their live show was more aggressive than the studio stuff, so maybe it was just a good night because they were really pissed off.

  2. Well this was the second time I had seen them, the first time was like what you said--faster, more aggressive. It's just that their new stuff is a lot more grounded and less ambienty. It's not bad, just different.

And they didn't play Cryptograms, which sucked.

  3. Saw Ozomatli and O.A.R. at Jones Beach last night...awesome show...

  4. King Crimson - Doors @ 7pm / Show @ 8pm (SOLD OUT!)
Just got back from this one.

The sound was great. The set-list was mostly '80s material with a few classics like "Red" and "Larks' Tongues in Aspic" thrown in.

The whole "2 drummers" experiment was handled very well.

The only complaint I really have is that Robert Fripp positioned his "Frippertronics" machine so that it completely blocked himself off from the audience, but I guess he's just not comfortable being in the spotlight (he was basically off to the side playing in the dark while the other four musicians were spotlighted in clear sight).

Remaining tour dates (though I'm sure these are all sold-out already):

August 3 - Nashville, TN @ Bellcourt Theater
August 6 - Chicago, IL @ Park West
August 7 - Chicago, IL @ Park West
August 8 - Chicago, IL @ Park West
August 11 - Philadelphia, PA @ Keswick Theatre
August 12 - Philadelphia, PA @ Keswick Theatre
August 14 - New York, NY @ Nokia Theatre
August 15 - New York, NY @ Nokia Theatre
August 16 - New York, NY @ Nokia Theatre

  6. did anyone end up going to lollapalooza this year? I went. I just thought of it now, but I should've posted something in the forum about a TNL meetup there. If anyone else was going that is.

The fest was alright. THe music was good, but the heat was unbearable and I can't describe how many people were there. It was uncomfortable. But maybe I'm just a puss.

The Rage Against the Machine show got waaaaay out of hand, so much so that Zach De la rocha threatened to stop the show early if people didn't be safe. I thought that was really cool of him, worrying about the safety of his fans.

I saw a bunch of other really cool shows too:

Duffy (I tried to take her home with me in a suitcase)
Racontuers (Second time I've seen them, they're KILLER live)
Radiohead (I'm not the biggest fan, but their show could've put me to sleep)
MGMT (These guys were cool, and they added a kick ass guitarist to their lineup for live shows which makes the live version better than the album cuts)
Black Kids (Cool band but the show sucked)
    Wilco (Fuck yeah)
Rage against the machine (pretty incredible)
Girl Talk (This guy puts on a good show, it was like the coolest block party)
Kanye West (I can't stand this guy one bit, but he puts on a good show)

Saw some others too but I'm probably forgeting them now.

  7. Went to see Radiohead last night. Holy shit. I saw them in 03' at MSG and this show blew that one away. The set list wasn't as good (but still fantastic), but the light set up and crowd made it fucking nuts. The light set up is easily the most ridiculous shit I have ever seen live. It was so insane that the lights gave me the sensation of tripping my face off even though I didn't eat any hallucinogens. Plus they sold out a 20,000+ person amphitheater. Being able to look back and see 15,000 people on the lawn was insane. I had never seen this venue even close to as full.

Anyone seeing them at All Points this weekend is in for a treat (aren't you Rich?). I'm pissed I'm not going to be in NYC this weekend for the show(s), but there's not much I can do.

  8. It's not in New York City, it's in Jersey City, NJ. My city.

  9. I realize where it is.
