Thread: TNL's GotM: October 2006

  1. How did IGN give God Hand a 3/10 then? I hear so many polar opposite things I don't know what to believe.

  2. From reading the review just now, I'd say a combination of just not "getting it" coupled with a bit of sneering elitism. The reviewer invokes the "F-chans" argument for example, being so bold as to say that nobody would have bothered with this game if it hadn't been developed by Clover. Lame.

God Hand isn't exactly flawless, but the minor problems it has are far outweighed by the enjoyment it delivers in my opinion. I don't normally play beat-em-ups, but I love the hell out of it. My cousin doesn't play them either, but I showed this to him last week and he picked up a copy for himself the very same day. It's a crazy Fist of the North Star parody wrapped around a rock-solid fighting engine. I'd recommend it to anyone.

  3. It's IGN. That should explain everything.

  4. That works too.

Remember kids, you can't spell "ignorant" without IGN!

Congrats, you played the worst SC game. Now go play something good like Chaos Theory. Or the original. Or the new one. Basically, anything but the crappy one. It's like playing MGS2 and then writing off the whole series. Except that even a shitfest like SC2 is better than MGS2.

If by "pretty awful", you mean "dumb but fun," then I agree.

Uhhh, what? So you're saying that Double Agent is better than God Hand but I should prefer God Hand because it isn't a franchise or licenced?

And it is retarded. Its like they tried to do an 80s beat-em-up in 3D, down to the completely stiff control. Go play any of the better recent brawlers (I already mentioned The Warriors, but Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks is another good example) and don't waste your time on God Hand until it drops to the $10 price tag it deserves.

    One last thing:

Truth. A decade-old game is the best release this month.

In what the hell way is God Hand stiff? You set your own combos, and you can cancel in and out of attacks with evades. The Warriors is decent for a two player game, but it's like you're comparing Virtua Fighter to frickin' Plasma Sword here. Not even remotely on the same level.

Dude, IGN. Even Gamespot gave GH a good score.

  7. Which of you fucking Wapanese voted for the lame God Hand? The game certainly isn't shit, but its nowhere near as good as, well, any of the other games on the list except for PSU and Tales. Hell, The Warriors is nearly a year old and still beats God Hand in every possible way. And Bully uses a very similar brawling system. If Bully already has a fun brawling system AND tons of other fantastic gameplay, why would you even think of voting for a beat-em-up that does only one thing and doesn't do it very well?

Oh wait, its Clover. And they're Japanese. So it must be the best game this month.
    yeah, fuck you.

Clover, Japanese, whatever. God Hand gave me no control problems after the first minute, and as much as I like The Warriors, you'd have to be out of your mind to claim it (or Bully) has better combat. I actually had to mind what I was doing in GH.

And how the hell is GH similar to old beat 'em ups at all? Did I miss the dodging and targeting in Streets of Rage?

This is what I've heard. I'm vaguely interested in trying out Chaos Theory. It looks a bit less generic than the latest.

Well MGS2 is the best of the Metal Gears...

BZZZZZZRRRRRRT! Way off on that one, dude.

Dead or Alive is dumb but fun. The 3D MK games are pure awful.

The MK games are pretty dumb but fun when you have other people to play them against, in my experience. Although the drugs might have had something to do with that, now that I think about it.

Tank controls were great... in 1983, when they were the only conceivable way of translating Battlezone to 2600.

You apparently missed the bland, generic levels and constantly repeated enemies in God Hand.
