Truth. It's awesome/scary to hear stories about hilarious things I've told people while on Ambien and having not gone to sleep. Some of them were surprisingly insightful and I had no memory of them. Some of them... yeah, scary shit. I have good stories, but none I feel like telling on a messageboard.
Fall asleep at any point of the day?
...even whilst driving a motorcar?
...fucks with REM?!?! Stipe can't hold it back?!?!?
Seriously, though, the more I hear the symptoms of apnea, the more I think I have it. It may also be my four to six hours of sleep a night during the week, though.
The guy I was around had to take an insane amount to sleep, probably well above what most doctors are comfortable prescribing. Someone else was making shadow puppets to freak out a drunk girl and the guy on Ambien was laughing waaaaay too much. Then he started signing some song and ballroom dancing with himself. About ten minutes after that he fell off his bed and had to ask somebody to put him back on it.
I don't want to think about what would happen if somebody got out of their house or away from normal people while on that stuff. Sounds dangerous. This kid didn't remember a damn thing that he had been doing.
That's what I thought too until I got it checked out. If you snore, and if you have any relatives that have it, find a sleep medicine doctor (they usually do cardiology too) and get checked out. You'll go for a sleep study (mine was fully covered by insurance) and know for sure.
Sleep apnea is scary shit. I've lived like a zombie for the past 4 years without knowing why. It killed Jerry Garcia and a hall of fame football player, as far as famous people go.
If you can't find one, look up Dr. Aman Vazir in West Paterson, NJ. It'd be a hike but he's a great doctor if you need one.
