Thread: LCD HDTV

  1. This is how it is

Just in case anyone was wondering. The vanilla Xbox 360 can output 1080p for video games but if you want to watch those hd dvd's in full resolution you need a hdmi cable. If you output the 360 video through VGA it only displays hd dvd's at a max of 1080i.

The whole reason behind the hdmi cable was to prevent piracy of the full/true hd content. Adding audio to the cable was an after thought/pr. HDMI is basically DVI-D input/out with audio added in.

  2. Adding the audio to HDMI was not an afterthought. It is one of the best features of the cable. The bandwidth is so much higher than standard optical that they can pass uncompressed 7 channel HD audio over it. No other available connection does this.
