Thread: Capcom vs. Konami

  1. I love me some Konami, but I hate to say that in my humble opinion, Capcom owns them every day of the week.

  2. Capcom. Easily. I wouldn't be playing games right now if Capcom had never made Street Fighter II.

By that logic, Vampire Savior, Marvel vs. Capcom, SF3, Jojo, CvS, etc. are all part of the Street Fighter series.

And if you're only going to list games that you like, that's fine. But that's not what you said in your original post. You listed a painfully incomplete list of Konami titles and asked what else had they done of note, and I told you.

    So there!

I think you may be giving them too much credit. If you don't like Dancing games, they haven't really done alot since the 16-bit era.
So what if they haven't (which I dispute anyway)? Their work product to date puts them ahead of Konami in my book.

Don't forget, this is the company that not only invented the horizontal shooter, but arguably the modern 2D console action game as we know it today. Not too shabby.

SF3 is part of the Street Fighter series...

  5. Damn its a tough choice.

I would have to give the edge to Konami. I couldn't live without the old contra's, castlevania's, MGS 1 & 2, Silent Hill...

Power Stone needs to be added to the list for you Capcom defenders though. That game is quite a gem and deserves to be mentioned.

Sure I love my mega man, and Vampire series...but if I had to, I could get my fighting game fix from other sources...(Sega, SNK, Namco).

I think you summed up my viewpoint perfectly, Neo. Konami's made some damn fine games (SOTN, the Silent Hill Series, old-skool Contra, Vandal Hearts), but overall I just about love almost everything Capcom puts out. RE, DMC, SF, Darkstalkers, Megaman, Dino Cirsis...the list goes on.

  7. Capcom

the clostest call comes when considering the NES era, what with Castlevania I-III, and Contra. But in the end, capcom comes out on top with Megaman 1-6, Bionic Commando, Ghosts and Goblins, Legendary Wings, 1942, strider, and the greatest NES RPG of all time (screw you FF & DW!!!), Destiny of an Emperor

in the Genny/SNES era, Capcom also wins with Megaman 7/X-X3, Breath of Fire 1-2, Captain Commando, Final Fight 1-3, Mercs, Rockman & Forte, Buster Bro's, Super Ghouls & Ghosts, and the game that started it all, Street Fighter 2, which i feel is a greater selection than Contra: Hardcorps, Castlevania Bloodlines/IV, TMNT, Battletoads, and Sunset Riders

and again in the PSX/Saturn/N64 era, the two developers put out some of their best games. Resident Evil 1-3, Dungeons and Dragons, X-Men vs Street Fighter, Street Fighter Alpha 1-3, Super Puzzle Fighter, Pocket Fighters, Vampire Savior, Cyberbots, Megaman 8/Legends, Strider 2, and the Misadventures of Tronn Bonne. Konami had MGS, DDR, Beatmania, Symphony of the Night, Policenauts, Silent Hill, and Suikoden. But i still feel Capcom put out the most quality games.

And now, Capcom is prevailing under the PS2/XBox/GC. DMC revitilized the action genre, Onimusha took the Resident Evil template and made it into an Samurai-action game, and Resident Evil Remake is one of the top games out right now, while Konami is putting out some killer-apps with MGS2, , and some dissapointments with ZOE...

in the end, i think Capcom is the best devloper out there behind Sega... but it's an extremely close call between Capcom and Konami (mainly because of Castlevania )

Let's get one thing clear: I voted for Nintendo because I personally like their games more than Sega's and the only time Nintendo has ever screwed their customer was with the Virtual Boy. And the only Nintendo franchise that has been truly "whored-out" is Mario, but Sonic has been over-exploited too, so that even things out.

And while Konami may have responsible with letting Appaloosa screw with the Contra franchise, Capcom isn't any better either (as proven with Street Fighter: The Movie and Final Fight Revenge). I personally think the only reason why Capcom has outvoted Konami is probably because almost everyone here is a Street Fighter fan and can't live without the likes of Chun-Li, Ryu and Morrigan.

  9. Capcom fans aren't making a very fair argument when they leave out games like axelay, shadow of destiny, goemon's great adventure, the tokimeki memorial series, the vandal hearts series, the suikoden series, ring of red and the best soccer games on the plant-Winning eleven(or ISS).

    Konami rules.

  10. Capy-com. I love'em. But if I had to chose between being able to play either Konami games or Capcom games, Capcom would most definatly win. I loves me some Street Fighter!
