i was wondering about this for the ps2. i heard elsewhere that it's pretty fun and i kinda wanna get it. i haven't played a dbz game since that one with the tiny 2D sprites and grainy 3D backgrounds...it was pretty fun.
I've never been a fan of the shitty Dragon Ball games, or the actually decent Budokai games, but this one on the Wii is a lot of fun. A huge, unbalanced roster of fighters, a story mode covering everything from Raditz' arrival to the end of GT and the movies, and all your standard versus options have been shoved in here. Also, unlike Zelda, it seems like the game was made to be played with the motion functions instead of it being just tacked on.
Oh, and hey! It can be played with every controller imaginable, too: 'mote and 'chuck, classic controller, or GameCube controller! HAY SNK WHY IS INFROATARI DOING SOMETHING THAT MAKES MORE SNES THAN YOU? Unless you're used to the original controls, though, the Wiimote controls are great.
...but, it's not exactly user-friendly. Hi, getting my ass kicked thoroughly in stage 3!
Tell me I'm not the only one here who's comfortable enough in his sexuality to do a Kamehameha with the 'mote.

I hadn't paid much attention to anything DBZ-related in some time, but I picked up Budokai Tenkaichi for PS2 on a whim when it hit $20, because it looked like an upgrade of the DBZ Legends game for PS/Saturn. That's pretty much exactly what it is. It plays more like a "DBZ sim" than a fighting game, and I like that a lot. It's pretty much ridiculous fanservice for DBZ fans, whether or not you liked the English version is entirely irrelevant, as you can actually change the voices, too. Though I noticed you had to be careful about correcting what it defaulted to, or the mouth syncing got set on the wrong language.
Seriously, if you've ever enjoyed ANYTHING related to DB, you'll probably find fun in it. Surprisingly good game.
Considering how much fun I had with the first, if there's enough improvements, I'll pick this up for Wii as well. It's just a matter of time, though... busy with Elebits and Trauma Center now.
Does this have more story segments with the characters? I wanted that in the first... the little pre-fight blurbs and narration at the beginning and end of a saga didn't quite do it for me.
I reviewed the PS2 version for a site I won't mention, but it's a pretty big improvement over the first, especially once you get the in-game transformations. The two problems though are the story mode really covers everything, every last damn battle, which leaves you fighting the same enemies over and over at times. The second is leveling is done via items, but the whole inventory system is a awkward mess.
Upside is there's some significant depth to the fighting engine, and the enemy AI really brings the challenge at the higher settings.

Agreed. It really is very, very stupid. I'd rather the game be designed around the characters at default than have to worry about stupid experience-gaining items.
...but nobody else got the Wii version with the silly controls? Nobody else wants to put the 'mote to their forehead and scream, "SPECIAL BEAM CANON FI-UUHHHRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!"?
This makes me sad.![]()

My mom bought it for me for xmas, i made he take it back and get elebits instead
I know. So does the Jackass movie.
Oh, right. I also prefer the Japanese name of the game to the ridiculous Japanese tongue-twister we got.
I do understand that the US theme never had the "SPAHKING" line in it, but something generic like "DRAGON BALL Z GRAND TOURNAMENT" or whatever could have worked better the way I see it.
