Thread: Everything You Need for the PSP...PART II

  1. ok here's my setting:

engine : psp accel + accur soft
Vsync: on (will run games faster when it's off)
    Show FPS: on

    Sound:
    output freq: 11025hz
    APU cycle: 6.25%

    PSP clockspeed: 333Mhz

that pretty much gets the game at 60fps at all times

I played everything up to Iggy's Castle & it only slowed down in the boss battle (heavy Mode7), but that's a pretty small price to play for what is 99.8% full speed.

What is the APU cycle? The only description is "For advanced users"

That does improve things a bit. If I add 1 frameskip to games like Contra III and Hagane, you barely notice any framerate dips during Mode7 effects. Thanks.

If by "the Genesis emulator" you mean DGen, I again have to point out PSPGenesis to the folks in this thread. It may not be updated anymore, but that's because it almost doesn't need to be. PSPGenesis has pretty much none of the issues of DGen, no need to mess with the user settings/frameskip ect. and it runs every game I have thrown at it blazingly fast. Whether it be Gunstar or Sonic 2, I have never had a game slow down or freeze on it as I have had with DGen (which doesn't even run many high profile games such as Alien Soldier and Rockman Megaworld/Wily Wars, just two of many games incompatible with DGen). Anybody who uses DGen just because it gets updated is a sucker.

GBA emulation is in a lot better shape than SNES and Genesis.. one reason being the main emulator is still being updated.
Glad to hear it. Anyone know if there's a SMB3 Advance rom/patch that includes all of the E-reader extras including the unreleased levels?

I think the latest version of DGen runs a lot faster than any version of PSPGenesis. Plus PSPGen has a problem recording scores properly (which is important if the game relies on point extends, such as Streets of Rage series). PSPGen is only an alternative for when DGen can't run the games properly if at all.

Too bad development stopped on because I prefer 24:1 stretch (I think that's what the ratio is) on the PSP, and DGen never added that option.

  6. is it just me or does custom firmware kill the battery even when its fully off? cause thats whats going on with me

Nope dont notice. It may drain the battery more than if it was running on normal firmware but nothing drastically. Its not suppose to drain the battery even when its fully off. Havent heard anything about that.

i dont know whats going on but its not taking a charge anymore. Itll work when plugged in but i pull the damn thing out and it dies. I dont think my battery is dead already, it worked fine the last time i remember playing it.

  9. Your battery is hosed. Not surprised, these are like cell phone batteries... they die young and fast. I haven't noticed any difference with losing charge fast with my custom firmware PSP.
