Thread: Everything You Need for the PSP...PART II

  1. Vsync is framerate killer, don't even bother.

  2. Which emulator are we talking about? Every single one I've tried has been complete trash so I'm seriously looking to finding a link in here that will point me towards this miracle gem of a program.

Too bad development stopped on because I prefer 24:1 stretch (I think that's what the ratio is) on the PSP, and DGen never added that option.
Fair enough. But a few months ago, I played both Dgen and PSPGenesis for a week. DGen had tons of imcompatible roms, slowdown in games like Gunstar whenever the action got mildly hectic not to mention vanishing sprites in games such as Earthworm Jim and Thunderforce. Having a character's head or a spaceship disappear for moments at a time is not what I'd call a benchmark for a good emulator.

So, unless this is a version much improved over the one I tried, PSPGenesis is still the winner. Fast emu, runs everything I throw at it and no need to mess with frameskip options just to get competent performance.

Also - is there any particular brands of memory cards I should look for (first party) or anything I should avoid?

All I've got is the 32meg
32MB is fine for all this upgrading/downgrading. Avoid getting Sony brand memory sticks. Not only are they overpriced but they are slow as hell. Get SanDisk.

They're both unsatisfactory in my view.

You've gotten Gunstar to work on DGen? I haven't.

  6. Thanks guys.

I picked up a 2gig sandisk card yesterday for 44 bucks. Haven't cracked it open yet though.

How is emulation of SNES and NES working and what are the best emus for it?

THEN you upgrade to the latest custom firmware,

    http://rapidshare.com/files/14892096/3.10oeA.zip

and as bandit says, with that file, you "(Just double click, choose PSP location, extract files and run installer on PSP)"
    QUOTE]

Ok, so I got to this step and I'm having a little trouble. I double click the installer and all it does is make a file calle "Game 150" with two files inside of it (310oeflasher & 310oeflasher%). What do I do now. The read me file talks about using the installer, but how do I access these files from the PSP? Where should I put the files?

    JM

  8. The OE Custom firmwares use the GAME150 folder for homebrew and things instead of GAME. I guess that zip file assumes you're using an earlier version of the OE firmware instead of the Sony 1.5 firmware, but you can install the new custom firmware from either.

Put the stuff in GAME150 into GAME instead and you should be able to run the custom firmware flasher on the PSP. Make sure the PSP is plugged in when you do it.

  9. Right, I got that to work finally.

Now I'm having trouble with the CPS2PSP emu. The guide I have says that after unzipping the file I should have a folder named CPS2PSP% with an Eboot file in it as well as the cps2psp folder. The % wasn't in the zip file and the guide says that folder needs to be in the game folder. When I try to run the emu with just the CPS2PSP folder, it says "the game could not be started (80020149)"

I can't seem to find the file I need.

  10. The newer versions of CPS2PSP (2.0 and newer) only require one folder.

Don't forget to convert the ROM to cache with the "romconv" program and add that to the cache folder as well. That should fix the error.
