I've read most of the new 52 that has been released so far. My biggest complaint for most of them is that they should have been double sized, or even 1.5 sized issues, at the regular 2.99 price. Way I see it is you're starting off a new continuity make sure we get enough story in these first issues to see what that is. A lot of them, JL and Supergirl are prime examples, are just blatantly written for the trade and have virtually no story in them.
JL was cool. I liked Hal being super cocky and thinking nothing can stop a GL and getting thrown through a wall. The new costumes for the most part work for me, I just wish Superman's looked a little less like armor.
Action Comics. No sir I don't like it. I get they want to do something different with the character, I just don't care for it. Having Superman basically act like Batman, and throwing security guards through walls, and dropping an old man off a building to make him confess, just doesn't feel like Superman. I had to roll my eyes at Superman trolling the cops too, it's just dumb. The character has evolved so much since his first introduction, and I feel like this is a hard regression, and not in a good way. I know I have way different views on it than most people though, I still think the best Superman was Byrne's reboot of him after CoIE.
Animal Man. Really good read here. This felt like how all the new #1s should have. It gave you everything you needed to know for where the character is now in the New DCU. Art was really interesting, but I think fits the book really well.
Batgirl. Really fucking awesome. Everyone should read this book. Like Animal Man it had the right amount of story and set up, so I knew what was going on in this new DCU. Totally on board with this, and I think its about fucking time Barbara Gordon can walk again. I never understood in a universe where the dead come back to life, and every other hero comes back to full health from any injury, why Barbara Gordon still couldn't walk.
Detective Comics. I enjoyed it, nothing really to say though. It's a typical Batman book, seems to have picked up right where everything left off before Flashpoint.
JLI. It was alright, nothing great but nothing horrible either. I hope we see Booster grow again, they've regressed him back to being all about the fame and what not. I was starting to really like the grown up mature Booster Gold.
Batman and Robin. I think with all the Bat books its just status quo. Not much to say other than looking to see how the dynamic is different between Bruce and Damian, compared to Dick and Damian. I have to admit Damian is one of the few good things that have come out of Morrison's run on Batman. (sorry I think R.I.P. Final Crisis, and Batman Inc were all fucking awful.)
Batwoman. I don't think anything is different, I think it's picked up exactly where it left off.
Demon Knights. Seems like this is going to be a really cool book. I've always dug Etrigan, so I'm excited to get something monthly with him in it to read. This was another one I thought gave me a good enough idea of what is going on in this new Universe for it.
Frankenstein Agent of Shade. I grabbed this cause I really liked the Frankenstein book during Flashpoint. I was a bit disappointed because something felt off here. It seemed like what ever made the flashpoint version interesting is missing from this one. Part of it could be the team interaction, which so far there is less of and doesn't seem the same, but I'm not sure what else it is. I'll give it another chance or two though.
GL. Picked up right where it left off, not much to really say about that.
Mister Terrific. Seems like it could get interesting. I picked it up initially because I heard Power Girl was in it, and I wanted to get an idea of what her status in the new DCU was. Ofcourse she just shows up as Karen Starr and they don't give us any hint of her powers or anything else. Main Mister Terric story itself seems like it could get good though.
Red Lanterns. It was Atroscitous (spelling) acting all emo for most the book and then getting back into being all about rage. With some well drawn female ass thrown in from time to time.
Superboy. It seems like they're going with a take on the Young Justice version of Superboy here. It's interesting how his "brain" or thought process is done over his entire body.
Batman. Ok this was pretty fucking awesome. Synder is just nailing it with everything Batman he does. (read Gates of Gotham if you haven't yet) Cappullo and Synder just fucking rock together. Probably my favorite out of all the new Number 1 batbooks.
Catwoman. So this is basically the cinemax of DC Comics, just some PG-13 softcore porn so far.
GLC. Seems like status quo in the DCU for the GL side of things. Though I'm going to assume Mogo is alive again, because when some GLs die the rings go flying off to find replacements.
Nightwing. I'm glad to see Dick having his own book again, as Nightwing.
Redhood and the Outlaws. I don't think this book needs Roy or Starfire. I think it would have been better off just being a Red Hood book. It's weird to me that it seems like the previous Titan stuff took place, but Starfire doesn't remember any of it, and now she just likes to fuck who ever when she's bored.
Supergirl. Probably the worst offender of these new number 1s. We got like 17 pages of fighting, and 3 pages of story. It seems she's just arriving to Earth for the first time and that it's current DC timeline and not set in the past like Action or JL. There wasn't much else said story wise though.
Wonder Woman. I'm guessing this WW is the same as the one that just finished her reboot storyline right before we switched to the new DCU. Lots of mythical creatures in this one, wonder if she's going to become almost like DC's Hellboy.
