Thread: The Weekly Comics Grind

  1. Kirkman and Loeb ran Ultimate X-Men into the ground, so that's gone too.

  2. So I've now read all of the NEW 52.
Out of the last batch I liked The Flash would have preferred Wally best. The rest of the books I can do without.
I probably won't follow any of this stuff beyond these first issues, but Animal Man, Detective Comics, Flash, and Batman were my favorites.

  3. Picked up Martha Washington Goes to War #1-4 and the Hard Boiled TPB, from back when Frank Miller formed coherent thoughts. Great comics! Hard Boiled is like a filthy Where's Waldo.

  4. Fuck. More stuff I should re-read.

  5. Just finished Marvel's Thor (Simonson) Omnibus at a whopping 1136 pages. Well worth the read.

  6. Early to mid 80s Marvel was phenomenal.
People can bitch about Jim Shooter all they want, but he got some creators to turn out some magnificent work.
    in before New Universe.

  7. 80's Marvel also had the best time period for X-men comics. Some amazingly epic shit back then.
    Where I play

Agreed -- I was trying to get back into the X-Men after reading them in the 80s and early 90s but have no idea wtf happened to the universe so I am buying up all the old masterworks so I can read earlier stuff #94 on up through 200ish and and also started the new ultimate x-men... from there I might go back and read the M stuff to see who all died etc. cause I missed that event...
"50,000! You scored 50,000 points on Double Dragon?"

It's by far my favorite era. I was in junior high, and Marvel was just amazing. X-Men, FF, Avengers, Thor - they were firing on all cylinders.

  10. Louise Simonson was no slouch in the 80s, either.
