Thread: The Weekly Comics Grind

  1. yeah the same one. The reboot is actually interesting.
look here, upon a sig graveyard.

  2. I tried reading through all the original Prophet series/mini series. I just couldn't do it.
I read the newest issue and it's okay.
For whatever reason, Adam Pollina popped into my head so I googled him to see what he's been up to since the 90s.

"Pollina entered the video game world with character designs for award-winning James Bond: Goldeneye. Since then Electronic Arts and Activision have hired him to design characters for NBA Street Jam 2, Def Jam Vendetta Wrestling, and Dark Rider.
In 2005, Adam led character designs on God of War for Sony Activision, which won over a dozen "Game of the Year Awards." He recently re-designed the character of Wolverine for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the recently released video game tie-in to the hugely successful 20th Century Fox movie."

    lol.

  3. Dude's gotta eat.

  4. ...I was laughing at the bastardization of all the game titles, and then the super secret Sony/Activision merger.

  5. I've been enjoying modern comics less and less lately. I think I finally nailed why. I can't stand the way shit is drawn. I don't know if it's because everyone does it digitally these days or they rely too much on the colorist to define tone and shape, but everything looks so flat. I just leafed through an issue of Wolverine and the X-Men. Chris Bachalo did the art and it's HORRIFIC! Then there's the tracers. I like my comic art to look like comic art. Not to look like half realized photostats.
Am I the only one who hates this shit? Will comic fans of the future look at the art of the 2010s the way we look at the 1990s art?
Who do you think is doing the best work out there?

  6. There's some GREAT stuff coming out color-wise nowadays, most of it is European though. The colors in Blacksad pretty much ruin American comics.

  7. Isn't blacksad totally painted (digitally?)though?

In comic acquisition news I picked up the King City complete collection today. Goddamn that is a fun book.

  8. I love King City so much.

Blacksad's super-painterly, regardless of how they actually did it.
