I reread Hard Boiled. I bet your Saga comes nowhere near its greatness.
The reviews you read of Saga lied. It's a great read and a fantastic starting point for a whole load of promising interstellar awesomeness. Also, $3 for 44 pages in issue 1.

Frank Miller when he wasn't bat-shit crazy and Geoff Darrow going nuts on art. If that level of greatness is your standard, you might as well quit now.
I wish someone would give Geoff Darrow's Shaolin Cowboy a proper oversize collection.
-edit- Looks like there's hope, and even a new Shaolin Cowboy series on the way.

"Art is man-made and should always appear thus. The evidence of a human hand at work is what makes a piece sparkle over the cold, mechanical realism that is so prevalent today."
-Matt Wagner from Mage #2, 1984
If only you knew Matt, if only you knew.
Pleasant surprise of the week- Frankenstein Alive, Alive! 13 issues of richly detailed Bernie Wrightson mostly b&w art. Preview here.
David Lapham also has a new series out with Dan the Unharmable. I keep thinking he's got something great that he can also complete somewhere inside him, and while I'm not sure this is it, it looks to be a load of gratuitous fun.
