Thread: The Weekly Comics Grind

  1. I'm really taken aback that Warren is going at this pace. Dude couldn't even handle a 3 or 4 issue mini per year before Empowered.

  2. He's stopped giving a shit about inking, I think that's a major part of it. His stuff looks better rough anyway.

It's a really great book, cheesecake aside. I love the demon trapped in the belt.

  3. It also helped him that a lot of the earlier volumes was drawn years ago and sent out to that secret e-mail list of his, so there was plenty of leadtime. Although the last two volumes were drawn more recently.

Also he might be encouraged by the fact that he recently discovered feedback for his work since he started up a deviantart page. He has quite a few blogs up, although they tend to die out about a month before the next volume is due, lol

  4. Go read Joker, it's a really great book and little to no Batman involvement.

  5. I've only got a few buys coming in this week:

    Authority #4
    Transformers Spotlight Blurr
    Cable #8
Ultimatum #1 - Why Jeph Loeb?

Side note: did you notice they're watching the beginning of "Commando" in volume 4?

  8. Got my copy of "The Great Outdoor Fight" signed by Chris Onstad today, also got a print of Strip #0001 signed that I intend to frame. Good times.

    He's a really nice fellow.

  9. I've noticed an ugly trend lately that's really beginning to piss me off. I'll pick up a mini-series or one-shot and it's just a lead in to another comic. The Jimmy Olsen one-shot by James Robinson was great, until the last few pages when it became obvious there was no story resolution at all. Same with Ultimate Origins, which was nothing more than a springboard to Ultimate Irrelevance.

And then I read something phenomenal and self-contained like Aetheric Mechanics and cry a little on the inside because I just wanted to read the next page even though there's none left. There's no justice in the world.

    James

  10. Yeah, I read Aetheric Mechanics just last night and that twist at the end is just AWESOME.

I also liked that other b&w GN he did a lot, Crécy. Terrific history lesson that can be applied to the Iraq War.

Next on my list is one from last year (or older): Matt Fraction's The Five Fists of Science.
